Are these really that rare? Why are they desirable?

Basvarken

Don't know about only 100 ever made, but you don't see them often.
I think it's beautiful.

The P/J Artist replaced an earlier version that had Gibson- and Ric-ish looking parts.

I love 'm and i was once close to buying one, but it didn't happen. It always gives me a Brian May feel.

Basvarken

That earlier version is even cooler indeed.

It's pretty, all right, but it's still just a P/J.

That earlier version looks much nicer to me.

Basvarken

It's not a P/J.
The bridge pickup is not a Jazz Bass pickup (at all).
The neck pickup is a split P alright, but much closer to the fingerboard than on any P (or PJ) bass. So it'll sound quite different in this position.

What Rob says. Plus a set neck and mahogany for a different sound.

Here is one that's missing the pickguard, for EUR 1,250

Close enough to a P/J for me.  :P

Dave, you stand on two legs, so does a ladder. I my opinion you are a ladder. Close enough.

I bet Dave could stand on one leg... does that make him a pogo-stick...?
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...
