Gibson returning to Summer NAMM
« on: June 27, 2018, 01:41:37 PM »
Summer NAMM 2018: Gibson to return with simplified guitar line-up, says Henry Juszkiewicz

He's still CEO until the Chapter 11 is completed. Simplification would be welcome, if it actually happens. I'm sure he has no choice in the matter, and that it wouldn't happen if he still had effective control. If the new lineup is really 8 months in the making, then he was being told to simplify by his creditors well before the bankruptcy filing.

Basses? Who knows.

I'm not seeing any basses.

Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

Basses? Who knows.

A short scale bass version of this could be nice.

That's what they're taking to Summer NAMM. They seldom take basses. I've attended Summer NAMM twice; The only basses there were a couple of Epis, and that's back when the TBird and SG Bass were in regular production, not limited runs.

If they're really simplifying, it's not apparent from that video. Don't expect everything there to be released, especially now in a time of transition.

Interesting that it has what look like firebird pickups.

On any Les Paul variant, they're almost surely mini-humbuckers. Different internal construction.

As I'm all bassed out, an affordable Les Paul Junior would be nice.

No polepiece screws, though. That would lead me to believe the opposite.

Could be, you never know, but mini-hums in recent years haven't had exposed polepieces. e.g. the 2018 SG Special.

The Custom Shop says "custom Firebird pickups" and earlier just "Firebird pickups".
