These have been out for a month or two. Color is not for me, and neither is the price.  :o

Well if it's actually gold leaf that might be fair.  :-*

I had a Desert Gold 4003 (2001 color of the year). This Goldglo is brighter. I like the Desert Gold better but I wouldn't turn this down.

MSRP of a standard 4003 is now $2249 and most stores won't discount over 20%. You always pay extra for a special run color plus this has checkerboard binding. I don't see the price as unreasonable, plus you can usually get a discount off advertised price at Willcutt.

I'm always a defender of Ric prices. I really think you get what you pay for, and they're competitive with Fender, MM, and Gibson. I'm just not keen on spending extra for a special color. The binding is cool. I definitely prefer the old desert gold over this, but that's just my preference. A new, matte black 4003S just sold for $1450. That's more my style.  8)

I like it, and if it were mine, I'd be tempted to put a color-matched back-sprayed plexi guard on it.

Is it me or have I just never noticed this before...? The EG tuners over hang the edge of the head...?

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

The camera angle has to be slightly off. They come right up to the edge but don't overhang.

If the edges were sharp, they would be right up to the edge. But due to the rounded edges, they do indeed overhang a little. Meaning, if you look from the front at a slight angle, you can see a bit of the back edge of the tuner's base plate.

One of the details on the newer Rics that I just think it's a unfortunate design choice.

I just took a flexible straightedge to my 2015 4003S. A tiny bit of the G tuner plate, just above the shaft, does overhang. The E tuner plate does not.
