Quote from: Basvarken on February 23, 2025, 02:40:36 AMThat was actually quite funny. Must have been Ausländer

That is surprising given that in Germany it is commonly held that Loriot's humor "stops at the border", i.e. is not even deemed funny in Switzerland or Austria.

I guess it confirms how you Holländers remain deutsch at heart, deny it as you might.  8)

PS: Loriot was from an Aristocratic family in Brandenburg, north-eastern Germany. He even served as an a senior lieutenant officer in the Wehrmacht in WWII (to his eternal regret and shame he later on said).

Really? How about this one. The bassist even plays on beats one and three here.

Is there any modern country artist you like Dave?

That's a rhetorical question, Dave, don't answer before speaking to me first as your attorney!

Please STOP IT!

What I think of modern country has been beaten to death. Note the thread title, post what you've been listening to lately (or don't) and stop trying to provoke me.

Gosh Dave, I'm sorry and didn't mean to provoke you. I didn't realize it was a sore subject. Guess I haven't paying close enough attention. I hope you can navigate around the parties and cookouts this summer where a lot of that modern country or bro country gets played. At least, that's how it is around my neck of the woods. It even grates on me after a while but I bite my tongue and just keep enjoying the barbecue and cornhole games. In the words of Kojak, Who loves ya baby?

I just consider most recent country as being a new type of pop music. It fits that category pretty well.

That's how I see it too. It even has hard rock/AOR elements. And why not, AOR/melodic rock reigned the 80s, "New Country" does so now. It's hardly a coincidence when someone like Taylor Swift says that Def Leppard is her favorite 80s rock band or when the bestselling "C&W" album of all time (if you want to call it that) is Shania Twain's Come On Over selling 40 million copies worldwide - and produced by Mutt Lange, the man behind Def Leppard.

Music styles morph into each other over time - and that's a good thing. Music sealing itself off against outside influences becomes archaic eventually.

Let's get back to posting music and discussing the music we post.

More New Country or, ok, new folk:

Transforming a melody written in one meter to another rarely works, but here it was done brilliantly!

I noticed that back in the 90s. A radio station popped up in Chicago called US99. They played "modern country". It sounded like AOR "rock" with a bit of twang and maybe a fiddle or steel guitar. I also noticed that some of these folks looked like they got their wardrobes and stage sets handed down to them from the then failing hair metal bands.

Yes, and the women in New Country vids began looking like they had just walked off a KISS, ZZ Top or WARRANT video set! 😂

But since rock'n'roll had country roots too - just listen to the country twang here

I guess you can say things came full circle.
