I'm often amazed by the holes in people's knowledge of popular music, especially stuff from my younger years that's now 50 years old. Of course, my ignorance of popular music from the 80s up is so profound that I've considered doing reaction videos to 90's-up "new" music that I've never heard (Old white guy reacts to your music...). My responses to rap and hip-hop would mostly be "What are they saying? I can't understand a thing they are saying!!"

I agree, her intentions are benign. And if you made a career out of opera, it wouldn't surprise me a bit that you were unfamiliar with a lot of popular music from 40+ years ago.

Great find!  Always love me some Richard Thompson.  Funny that he's one of the greatest guitarists of all time, but often unassuming.

Well it ain't Fairport Convention! I've not explored this end of Richard's career, but this song has a sort of Springsteen urgency to it, right down to the keyboard hook. That Strat is the definition of 'glassy'! Not what I was expecting!

I'd recommend checking out Rumor and Sigh, which this song is from.

He was only in Fairport Convention for four years! There's so much more to his career than that.

He may have influenced Springsteen, not the other way around.

New single released today from Nick Lowe with Los Straitjaclets.

First new album in over a decade, coming September 13

Nick looks more like Orville Redenbacher every day.

Man, I like that!  Big fan of Los Straitjackets here, and that evokes a lot of classic rock & roll sound.

I will give that a go! My wife has extended her Spotify account to me, so most music is within limits now!

Great.  Of course the classic from this album is 1952 Vincent Black Lightning.

She had that Wes Montgomery thing nailed down like no one I've ever heard...it's sad that her expiration date kicked in before she fully developed her own style.

I'd recommend checking out Rumor and Sigh, which this song is from.

There's so many faces/stages to Mr. Thompson...I'd start with Pour Down Like Silver, onto Shoot Out The Lights then move on as you deem fit. A brilliant guy, through and through, IMO.

"A Whistle-Stop Tour Around The Sights And Sounds Of Late Fifties-Early Sixties East End Houston"

As a native Houstonian of a certain age, I can relate.

New, from Joe Ely's forthcoming album.

Springsteen on backing vocals.
