RIP. Thanks for the music. Way too young.

66 is getting way too close to my age

R.I.P.  A fine musician indeed.

Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (drummer and bassist of Deep Purple, Jake!)

Highlander

Only saw him the once... supporting Lofgren... '78 iirc... I already had the first LP, all the 12's that came from it (still have them), and had the UK copy of the official boot on tape (friend had it; 5 tracks to the US 4 track, which I have too) which I played to death... Dog On The Run, not on that first LP but on the Leg, is still one of my all time fave songs... played it the night I saw them... also played a then unreleased song called I Need To Know...
I just never got round to seeing him again after they took off...
rip Tom...

Local video about how Tom fulfilled a dying woman's wish to meet him a few months ago. She's still hanging on, now he's gone.

There's no such thing as gravity, the earth just sucks!!

I posted this on FB yesterday, someone just uploaded it on 10/3. Worth 20 minutes of your time.

Garry Shandling and Tom Petty both died suddenly of heart attacks at 66 despite no history of heart problems.

Nice clip. I could'nt help but noticing his smoking habit. If 4 cigarettes during 20 minutes was his usual smoking rate, that may be some kind of explanation to what happened to him.

Nocturnal

R.I.P. Mr Petty. Even as a teenager that was into hard rock/heavy metal, I loved Tom Petty. There was just something special about it to me. This is a big loss IMO.

(1) It was, and (2) I'm sure it was.

The chain smoking couldn't have helped, that's for sure.

Cause of death released today.

Statement from the Petty family

I had no idea he was in such bad shape.
