Headstock is like an exaggerated version of the Gibby.
Pickups are proportioned / sized wrong. Bridge pickup looks to be positioned to far forward.
Pickguard is too large, and is shaped wrong.
Bridge cover looks like the neck pickup cover from a Jazz Bass.
No Varitone!
The body looks screwy, too, but I cant put my finger on the problem...
Uwe???

I am in no way as expert as you more experienced gentlemen when it comes to EB's but I just felt that something didn't look quite right. About all I could put it down to was that the headstock made me look twice at it.

Either way the guy is either a scammer or an idiot....or possibly both?

How about a $2000 custom Epi T-Bird?

Never heard of that band before. Unfortunately I made the mistake of looking them up. Ultra-cheesy unintentional parody of a 70s funk/disco/boogie show band. Someone who likes that sort of thing might be insane enough to drop 2G on an autographed monstrosity, even if it is an Epi.

Anyone care to give an estimated realistic value for this one?

The bass itself is a 70s Japanese copy (as mentioned, the hardware is close, but not quite right - also the body shape seems elongated), the bass is worth $250 tops (I am really being generous; I bought a similar one a few years ago now for $100... in worse shape and obviously a copy due to the finish - gives the SPCB a run for it's money... I sold it for about the same a few months ago).  The amp you'd have to pay me to take.
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (drummer and bassist of Deep Purple, Jake!)

Oh dear SG guy is a scammer.

I messaged him requesting better pics and saying that I very much doubted if it was in fact a Gibson.
I asked for a pic of the headstock and of the back where the neck meets the body.

He replied with this: "hi, i rang my uncle who knows a lot about instruments as he was in a well known band when he was young.

the bass is a 1969 gibson EB3 for sure"

His ebay account has only bought 1 item and therefore has a Feedback rating of "1".

Suddenly there is a bid!
Check out the details of the bidder.

Bidder Information
Bidder:   Bidder 1
Feedback:   Zero • 0% Positive
Registered on eBay:   Less than 1 day
Item description:   limited edition 1969 Gibson EB3 bass and 30watt amp
Bids on this item:   1

Any guesses as to what is going on here?

You could always report it as a fraud.

Is it worth it Dave? Done it in the past and had no discernable result from ebay.

FYI - I posted a MIJ EB-3 copy a few months back, and it was pulled in less than an hour. It has the lawsuit headstock, but otherwise is not going to fool anybody ('specially with a maple board!). Ebay told me to cease and desist from posting it again (or anything like it). I guess Big Brother's (read Gibson) legal dept. was on the lookout.

Amazing isn't it? They could care less about their basses but are still prepared to spend money on an old and financially irrelevant copy.

Actually they don't care about the old copy. They care about the use of their trademarked name in an eBay listing for a product they didn't make.

And even if the manufacturer doesn't catch it, eBay's rules prohibit putting a manufacturer's name in the title of an ad for a copy or clone. So it could have been eBay's own doing that the listing was pulled.
