Has anyone got a coil from a mudbucker? The pickup that was in my eb2 had one coil missing when i got it and i would like to get it going.

That's random.  Sorry can't help you.  .... though I do have a couple Epiphone reissue mudbuckers that it wouldn't be a shame to dissect.

I have 2 epiphone pickups too,in fact one of them is in there at the moment, but i want to unleash the full earthquake potential of the gibson pickup.Free the mud!

The Epi definitely wouldn't do, but as long as everything else is there, why couldn't you sacrifice one of the Epi bobbins and have it wound with 12,500 turns of 42 gauge?

Granny Gremlin

Yeah, that's what I meant.  It's that or bid on dead mucbuckers on ebay hoping for a good coil.

One of them, on its own, is still pretty muddy... mine will run series (Mud), parallel (baby Mud), out of phase (Monster-Mud) and neck coil only (mini-Mud)... :vader:

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Rewinding an epi coil seems a lot easier than finding a single unbroken gibson one.

I´m doing that now, bought an epi EB0 for my ´58 explorer bass project a month ago. It must be the cheapest new bass I ever bought, $180 list price! Thought I´d just use the neck, but until I come across a fail priced/project condition mudbucker, I´ll just rewind the epi.

I´m gonna tap both coils halfway, just for fun/experiment - les paul style. Maybe someone here have done that? I vaguely remember someone posting sound clips of parallel vs single coil mode mudbucker (chromium?) but could not find the thread.

Granny Gremlin

That is a very interesting project.  Looking forward to hearing how that tapped mudbucker turns out.

This is the link to Joe's original article... http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=951.msg11795#msg11795 ... no soundbite links here but there might have been on another thread...

I rewired mine with a 4 position rotary switch suitable for a EB3 replacement... still having problems balancing it with the Lollar 60's TB pup though... rotary switch is purely for the Mud... a standard 3 position pup selector and an individual vol pot for each and out on an XLR...
I used Belden cable for the re-wire so I could screen each output separately...

Joe did post a sound link in that thread, farther up the page from your link, see http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=951.msg11769#msg11769 (at the bottom of the post)

Hi Kenny, have you considered stereo wiring on the pc so you could use the 2 preamps on the Hiwatt?  And a Happy New Year to one and all!
