If you're a lefty and can do all the work yourself and you put zero value on your labor, it might be worth the opening bid.  :)

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

At what point does a "relic job" become plain old butchering I wonder?

A work of ignorance. Homeboy wanted a bass with a fretless neck above the 12th fret without realising the work involved or the fundamentals of such a design in the first place. Looks like they did such a bad job of refitting the nut that they decided to make it Gibson-style by chopping off rosewood for a wider nut to sit on. Nothing 'relic' about it, just wasteful and misjudged hackjob luthiery.

Is that lacquered rosewood?  Never seen that before...

Sold for $30 plus $15 shipping. Way too much IMHO.

It does look like there's some kind of finish on it. Judging from the back of the neck, I wouldn't be surprised if it's some kind of wipe-on gel varnish.

Most Rics have gloss finished rosewood boards, but it's a hard surface conversion varnish, not lacquer.
