I've always thought that Barbacans would make nice apartments.  Usually very well located and all that.

There's a thing called renovating, you know.

Also, I like open air toilets (in the summer).  A breeze is nice, and you can smoke.

True, there were plagues that wiped out a third of the population. But on the positive side, you could go to your local barber shop for brain surgery.
