While I'm sure that most non-US members here will be familiar with a few US instrument retailers, our American cousins may (or may not) be familiar with the German retailer Thomann; much like Amazon, they've kind of become the default business to search for and price compare new instruments over this side of the pond.

Anyhow, there's been a handful of threads here and elsewhere about Thomann having the purchase power to approach Gibson and persuade them into doing a run of basses in non-standard colours, I mean, how hard would it be?  With this in mind, I emailed Thomann yesterday...amazingly they've not closed the door on the suggestion and are approaching Gibson to see whether it's feasible!  They mentioned they work with Gibson for guitars, but never basses.

I mentioned that Gibson have done specials before (Mark had posted an image of the Sapphire Blue Yamano model on Talkbass years ago, so I used that as an example).  The prospect of sea foam green, cardinal red (like the Jeordie White/Twiggy prototype) or sapphire blue options would be great.

We'll see where this road leads us and will post when I hear more.

Large or not - the Thomann people are always nice and helpful.

Gibson has done this before. I remember there were some SG Basses in custom colors done for a Japanese distributor around 2008 or so.

Oh yeah, like shell pink and sea green I seem to recall. Japanese market gets a lot of cool Rics too.

I found this old post from Jules' forum. Apparently canary yellow, sky blue and coral pink, and Jules saw them in Denmark Street.

A blue one is on his SG Reissue page at Fly Guitars.

Sorry for the abbreviated quote, but Denmark Street, Landaan.  Shudder.

That Hipshot wouldn't be bad if it were chrome. It stands out like a sore thumb now.

I think it's not bad, it matches well with the minibucker ring and the pickguard. I think it's a good start, now go change the rest of the hardware to black! :D
