Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Ampeg PF-50T
February 02, 2022, 03:03:54 AM
I have a PF-50T and it is a very good amp. Can actually do small gigs with 2x112 cabs . Imine will never go anywhere. Also from side by side comparison the PF 112 cabs sound more like a B-15n than the PF115's do.

Most speakers used by Ampeg and Fender ect. are custom in some way and not just off the shelf speakers.

Just an FYI there are a couple of different versions of this cab. The boomy ones have black grill cloth and the much better IMHO still plenty of lows just much more defined and sweeter overall sounding has silver grill cloth .I do not know Dates and such but I had a black one and got rid of it quickly. I now have the silver one and it sounds pretty decent to me.

You guys are very helpful. It is nice to have a different Forum to ask questions and get straight answers .

OK just for general Knowledge Fender Now recommends Biasing the 300PRO the same as the Super Bassman 300 at 80mV.  Thanks for the information that led me to search out the answer Guys.

A friend has one and uses it at small to med gigs. Won't fill a big room with earth moving bass but it can and will carry a Med size room fairly well the biggest Issue is it sits kind of low so you may not be able to hear it all that well

Thank you guys

What would you say the bias voltage should be set at .  I don't really want to cook the tubes that I just got. Any suggestions?  It does seem to be running pretty hot right now.

So I guess it is just a matter of putting the probes into the opposite socket to get the right answer.

The Manual and the back panel say to set the bias at 100mV and the Balance at 0mV. So Go to set the Bias and it comes up -100mV. Is it the same either way? Or Is there a Problem? Also it does not say But I am guessing the center connection that is used for both settings is common?

Any Help would be appreciated

Bass Amps & Effects / Tube retainers
May 01, 2017, 09:55:29 AM
I have a Fender Bassman 300 PRO it currently has 6550's in it . I am changing them out for KT-88's soon. My Question is will the spring retainers that are currently in the amp work with the KT-88'S or do I need to order some Bear Trap type retainers?

Thanks in advance

Just a correction to my first post if I keep the Master down not the Gain then it is quiet. But when I turn the master above 2/3 it gets noisy. Not killer noisy . I did some troubleshooting with Traynor removed all the tubes put in one set at a time and no matter what Pair I put in for the 4th pair it gets noisy again so I bought a matched Quad and once the fourth pair of tubes was put in it got noisy again. So I am now wondering if the first tube pair or the second pair is creating some noise but not enough to hear it until the 3rd and 4th pair are in?  I have rebiased and right after I set the Bias it gets quieter then after it really warms up 30 to 45 min the noise is back.    Any new Ideas
