I've got the near twin to that one but even cooler...red with black hardware. Mine is definitely original factory paint and one of the later near Gib clones before the factory switched over to making Orvilles. It's actually a pretty nice TBird.

I almost bought an early (SN#06x range) Pedulla Orsini 4-string years ago but when I went back the next day with cash, Billy Joel's bass player had just snagged it. It was a blue-green color. It's still one of those basses that "got away" that I sometimes think about.

I DO own a pair of MVP 8-strings that are fairly rare to come across. I bought the sky blue one new...have loaned it for a music magazine bass cover photo in the 90s. These have my favorite 8-string necks. Only wish they made a dual-truss version but Mike refused to do a custom order for one when I asked.

This '89 Hamer Scepter 12 bass came with a custom Bartolini triple-coil PUP in it (when did Bartolini introduce the triple humbucker? This isn't the MME one.) Great sounding PUP. It was made for Willie Basse (name on headstock) of the 80s all-Black metal band Black Sheep from Hollywood (I was told he's in/worked on the "Hearing Aid" video with all the 80s metal stars.) He owns a studio in Hollywood and does a lot of production for major labels and, apparently, has a good ear and knew what he wanted when he ordered this. It is definitley "over the top" in a Bootsy Collins sort of way :)

Pink pearl snakeskin finish all around, boomerang inlays AND red LED dots...the body is even down-scaled from a normal sized Scepter Bass.

Sorry for a little thread hijacking Baz and Hello to Everybody.

Just wanna ad Baz's custom creations are the simply killer !!!

Hey Andre.....

If shipping wasn't so expensive to Germany, maybe Baz would have thrown in the other four tuning machines and strings !! :)

Jon, I'm NOT selling this one. Period.

....BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA (uttered in a deep dark evil tone, with the "Theme From Jaws" playing in the background.) That's the THIRD Hamer 8-string I've sold you.....they don't seem to last very long in "Casa De Bazo." But I WILL bet this one lasts at least 10 months :)

Oh yeah....8 string Baby!!!!

At least you and I remain 8-string brothers in arms and have probably had more 8-strings between us than anyone!!

Gibson Basses / Re: Single-pickup Thunderbird II Custom Shop
« on: November 24, 2010, 12:07:46 PM »
The one I owned (Uwe has it now) didn't have the custom shop decal and didn't show any evidence of ever having been repaired. When I wrote Gibson about it the guy who responded said that they made a few after the Japan run as special orders. I've seen pictures of a black one and a beautiful burst one as well, but all the rest (including mine) were white (or cream now).

Looks like a couple of those have rosewood fingerboards?

Mine and the other I could've bought both had ebony.

Hmmmm?

That one's mine....(and my favorite "go to" Tbird that I own.)

Gibson did a special small run of these in 1986 for key Gibson dealers in Japan, mostly in Polaris White color with ebony fingerboards. The ones from this run all have the Gibson Custom Shop decal on the back of the headstock.

I was told it was a run of only six but I ran across a post on the internet that states it may have been around 20.

Either way...they are VERY rare. I've seen three of them so far, including mine and the one Uwe owns,  all Polaris White.

...I wish I could find another! I'd actually passed on a second one about a week after I'd bought this one, not realizing how rare it was at the time....and haven't found another since in six or seven years. DUH!!

Rather ironic that I sold you my Hamer Chap 8-string to use for the neck for this TBird 8....and you end up painting it the same strange color as my Hamer Jeff Ament Cruisebass!!!!!

That's kharma Baz.....it's heading to my house when you sell it :)

BTW...looks nice.

The price must include Les Paul's actual body, since Les is featured in the photo and ad does not say "guitar only."

I like the part near the bottom that says:

"Previously listed and accidentally purchased by a 2 year old child."

That's like 20 minutes from me....I'm tempted to contact him like I want it and go over just to fk with him and ask all sorts of stupid questions in person...like a Spinal Tap segment. Wish I had a tiny hidden camera to bring and post it on YouTube :)

WOW! A Gibson Fireturd made by people in bamboo huts and demo'd by a huge Mexican

BRILLIANT!!!

Gibson has tapped into cheap labor and the emerging wave of Latinos in the USA in one swoop.

.....and here I was hoping the HUGE news might have been that they bought Hamer from Fender, so Gibson could have a killer custom shop.

They should have threw on a Firebird VII trem and banjo tuners to make the Robo-tuner earn its keep!

Love that green/black combo!

That guy has been tryng to sell that TBird for the last year or longer...but until now it was listed as a set with the matching Firebird. IMO I think it's worth more as the set and it would be a bad move for him to split them up.

Back in the 80s Blackmore lived about 15 minutes from me and would pop into a club we played on occasion. I didn't realize he liked our band until we were looking for a new guitarist at one point and Richie sent over his roadie (some Brit whose name I can't recall.)  But what was especially cool was that Richie loaned him one of his Strats and a small Pignose-sized black amp to use for the audition. The amp had lots of melted purple candle wax on the top that was dripped down it. I asked the guitarist what sort of amp it was and he said Richie told him it was the amp that he used to record Machine Head with. I thought that was pretty damn cool. Somewhere I still have an old cassette tape of that audition. We used to tape everyone in our recording studio to listen back later, to decide who we wanted.
