My small rig from Saturday night's wedding gig ...

How are you liking the shuttle, mark? I'm really digging mine into either of
my EA cabs.

Nice work!
This thread reminds me of one of Watt's bastardized, beat-up old basses:

"1956 fender precision bass
thunderbird pickup replaced stock one, another added at the bridge
has a 'v' neck and "thunderbroom" carved into the back of the body
opened up a beasties tour using this w/fIREHOSE
got it in hermosa beach, ca"

... from http://hootpage.com/hoot_gallery-thudstaffs.html
I always wondered what that one sounded like.

There's ole Gray with 'er dove-winged hat
Threre's ole Green with her sewing machine
Where's the bobbin at?
Tote'n old grain in uh printed sack
The dust blows forward 'n dust blows back
And the wind blows black thru the sky
And the smokestack blows up in suns eye
What am I gonna die?
Uh white flake riverboat just flew by
Bubbles popped big
'n uh lipstick Kleenex hung on uh pointed forked twig
Reminds of the bobby girls
Never was my hobby girls
Hand full uh worms and uh pole fishin'
Cork bobbin' like uh hot red bulb
'n uh blue jay squeaks
His beak open an inch above uh creek
Gone fishin' for a week
Well I put down my bush
'n I took of my pants 'n felt free
The breeze blowin' up me 'n up the canyon
Far as I could see
It's night now and the moon looks like uh dandelion
It's black now 'n the blackbird's feedin' on rice
'n his red wings look diamonds 'n lice
I can hear the mice toes scamperin'
Gophers rumblin' in pile crater rock hole
One red bean stuck in the bottom of uh tin bowl
Hot coffee from uh krimpt up can

Me 'n my girl named Bimbo Limbo Spam

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: In Praise of Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0
« on: October 18, 2010, 08:18:56 AM »
I've got a Shuttle 6 too.  It's a keeper. Aside from the weight and volume, I quite like its tone, and the EQ is pretty flexible for a four-knob job.

(I'm not using their cabs though. I have an EA CXL112L and CXL110.)

I have tried a ton of overdrives over the years.  For the last few years I've settled on a Keeley-modified Blues Driver.  It's like having my clean tone with just a little added bite.

I may be alone in this, but I thought the two-pickguard drawing looked really cool. Either way, this bass is just lovely.

I like it. Kind of retro, kind of new... doesn't look quite like anything else.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Use of Compressor in Live Settings?
« on: September 15, 2010, 08:28:52 PM »
I do often use a touch of compression live for a couple reasons:

* helps me hear my notes clearly through the wall of noise without having to play deafeningly loud

* it compensates a little for erratic dynamics due to my live technique being twice as sloppy as rehearsal technique :)

* most importantly, as a result of those, my comfort level goes up a little, I can relax and just play

I've been using the EBS Multicomp pedal for a few years. Wish it had adjustable attack but otherwise it's quite good.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: alumabass, bullfrog cabs
« on: September 15, 2010, 08:24:14 PM »
Bullfrog the company lasted way longer than 5 years if they were still making cabs in the 90s. I distinctly remember playing through a bullfrog as a wee little impressionable 11-year-old bassist around 1981-ish.  I don't remember what it sounded like, but it was bigger than I was, which I guess is why it stuck in my head :)

Assuming it's the same company, anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!  The Road Runner seems like a contender.
Dadagobol, have you actually used that particular Rondo bag or do you just like Rondo stuff in general? I wasn't clear from your wording.
