kinda leading on from the octave pedal thread...... i responded to Basvarken stating that everyone needs a drive pedal (Basvarken clarified that you must have a license first lol)
so im just wondering what overdrive pedals you ppl out there currently use & rate............?

after trying a bunch over the years i settled on an xotic BB bass preamp about 9 months ago and have been VERY happy with it ever since..

anybody else care to chip in?

Basvarken

Haha,
I use a Basscreamer from Technophobia; a handbuilt overdrive with a clean blend based on a Fulltone overdrive modified for bass.

I just use a tube amp (or preamp) and drive it hard, but lots of bass players like the RAT pedal...

I have tried a ton of overdrives over the years.  For the last few years I've settled on a Keeley-modified Blues Driver.  It's like having my clean tone with just a little added bite.

Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

Digitech makes an OD pedal called a Bad Monkey, and a gent named Scott Humphreys mods them for guitar or for bass.  The result is the Baddest Bad Monkey.  I have the Humphreys bass mod version.  To my ear it's the most realistic OD pedal, and it has a decent range of adjustment.

Here's a great story - I bought this pedal used on Ebay, and emailed him to ask which version I had.  I intended to pay for him to tweak it if the version I bought was the guitar one.  He told me to send it in and he converted it at NO charge - all I paid was shipping.  He is a real gentlemen in my book!

Check this Harmony Central review page...read the reviews, and note that it has a link:

Or, here's the link direct:  http://www.haudiomods.webs.com/

He modifies a whole list of pedals.  Based on my positive experience with him and the result of his work, I recommend this gent and his mods.  The reviews agree with me.

BTW - I had never heard of him until I tripped over a Humphreys mod pedal on Ebay and it mentioned that he works on a variety of pedals.  I got curious and checked it out, and the reviews were all positive. I decided it was worth a shot and I'm glad I did.
