Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Another build! :D
« on: January 28, 2011, 09:56:34 AM »
I finished my prototype for my Offenderbird:

And now I've moved onto the Offenderbird II...maybe  ???
I ordered some EMGs and all the hardware... Including an Allparts Danelectro neck (a 24 fret 30" scale neck blank essentially!)

But in my endless thoughts I came up with another idea: my own hollowbody:

What do you guys think? I'm liking the shape but I'd like some opinions not as biased as mine. Lol

Gibson Basses / Just an idea...

Hey guys,
I'm building a short scale Thunderbird prototype in the Projects, Mods and Repairs section of this great forum  and an idea struck me...

Since I'm building a shortie Bird to adress some key issues (balance, fret acces, length) I thought about going even further!

Has anyone ever thought of doing a headless Thunderbird?
I'm definitely considering it for my next prototype build!
Only problem is could I still tune a headless bridge if there is body under it?
And another question... If I were to cut off the headstock of an existing neck with a headstock truss rod adjust what would happen?

What do you think?

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / New Project: The Offenderbird!

Hey guys,
I know I'm a newbie around here but I figured this would be the best way to introduce myself.

I'm 16 years old and I've been playing for five years- and in those short 5 years I've always wanted to do this!
I've tried to build a bass before and just gave up... Then I tried this:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=704019&highlight=

Here it is now:

Anyways so I found this forum through Carlo (Catoldo Basses- Dadagoboi)
And I was utterly stunned by Carlo's Fenderbirds!

I've been drooling over his work and it inspired me to do my own creation.
The Fenderbird represents the idea of taking an already original idea and makin it completely your own.
I took that and here is my prototype Offenderbird so far (clever name, eh? :mistergreen:

I'm still refinig the template shape- what do you guys think?
I'm using the guts from my Bronco for my prototype in a Pine body.
For my real one I'm gonna try a method ive been working on for chambering.

The criteria for my final offenderbird(s) will be:
Short scale
Rosewood neck w blocks and binding
Seafoam green
Gretch Fillertron pickups wired VVT
Superlight weight!!!

And if I were to do a fretless version( I plan on it)
It will be the same as above only Shell Pink.

Ok a LOT of talking! Sorry about that!
Now off to work! Wish me luck
