Other Bass Brands / New Les Paul Bass Copy
« on: September 01, 2016, 12:28:11 PM »
Well, new to me.

Revelation Guitars seems to have made a fairly faithful copy of the late sixties Les Paul Bass.
Pickups are supposedly made by Alan Entwistle.

Looks pretty damn good!

Gibson Basses / Would you buy a copy of the Gibson Bass Book?
« on: September 01, 2016, 11:50:43 AM »
Some of you may know that I've been working on a book about Gibson basses for quite a few years.
Well, the book is finished! And I can have it printed. The only question is, how many am I going to have printed?
So I need your help. How many of you would be interested in buying the book?

The book consists of 180 pages.
Printed in full colour on 115 grams matt MC. With 300 grams soft cover.
Over 400 pictures of more than 80 different Gibson models (and more than 70 Epiphones).
Each bass has it's own short description with little facts.
It is not a scientific / encyclopedic piece of work, but rather the work of an aficionado.
But it is the only book in the world about Gibson basses! 8)

The price will be € 30,-
Shipping cost depends on where you live (EU and US € 11,50)

The idea is to have the book available within two months from now.
I would like to know who would be interested in buying the book. This is not a sign in list (I may do that later).

Here's a few examples from spreads in the book:

Guitars Etc. / 1969 Gibson ES-355 with lo-z pickups
« on: August 30, 2016, 02:02:13 PM »
What do you guys make of this?

At first I thought it looked like one of those prototypes that Les Paul built. With all the little control plates and the oval black lo-z pickups.
But when I looked again I think the fretboard looks all wrong. Like a bad photoshop job?

These seem to be pretty rare: a Castle Clavinet with a Whammy bar.
Great analogue sounds. Never seen one before.
I stumbled upon this thing when I saw a Lachy Doley video on YT

The Outpost Cafe / RIP Toots Tielemans
« on: August 22, 2016, 05:40:07 AM »
Belgian Jazz icon Toots Tielemans died in his sleep at the age of 94.
Toots was an inspiration for many musicians (among which John Lennon)
He was a great guitarist, harpist and composer.

The soundtrack of the Dutch movie classic Turks Fruit (turkish delight) was written and performed by him.

The Outpost Cafe / I quit the band
« on: July 21, 2016, 03:37:38 AM »
I’ve cut the knot and told the band I’m quitting. After I told the guys, they all said they had been planning to do the same. So we are doing our final gig tomorrow at a festival in Germany.
The band wasn’t really going anywhere anymore. We had trouble getting decent gigs. And we had trouble keeping the focus on the band and creating new music. After five years of good fun, it’s time to move on.

It’s a weird feeling for me to be without a band. I’ve been playing in a band since 1984. And the bands were almost always overlapping. The only time I was not in a band was sixteen years ago, when took a few months off after Bittermoon had folded.

I have no idea what I’m going to do. Don’t feel like starting up a new band just yet. I don’t think I could find the energy…

Gibson Basses / I need your help guys
« on: May 30, 2016, 11:44:55 AM »
I need to do some fact checking for the Gibson Bass Book that I've been working on.
There are a few things I'd like to check before I finalise the lay-out.

- The Gibson Nikki Sixx Blackbird has a set neck? Or is it neck through?
- How many of the LP JR Double cut (aka EB-11) were made?
- Production years of the LP Oversized (2011- ????)
- Production years of the Krist Novoselic Signature (2011- ????)
- Production years of the Flying V (aka "V") reissue (2011- ????)
- Production years of the Midtown Standard Bass (2012- ????)
- Production years of the G3 reissue (2012- ????)
- Production years of the ES-335 bass (2012- ????)
- Production years of the (new) EB (2013- ????)
- Production years of the 50th Anniversary Thunderbird (2013- ????)
- Production years of the NR Thunderbird reissue (2012- ????)
- Production years of the Thunderbird 2015 (2015- 2016)?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The Outpost Cafe / New Definition Of Madmen song
« on: May 26, 2016, 03:32:43 PM »
We've finally come out of our six month super extended hybernation. We recorded this song in january. But shortly after the recordings we decided to take a short break because life got in the way for some of us.
Saturday we're doing a gig at a festival. So this week we're getting back in shape.

To celebrate our awakening we've finished one the songs we recorded (in january)
No budget. So no fancy video...  :-\

The Bass Zone / Folding double bass
« on: May 20, 2016, 04:35:25 AM »
Cool invention by Charlie Chadwick.
Don't know if it sounds any good acoustically with the back panel and all. But I bet it sounds good (enough) with a Fishman piezo at the bridge.
