Saw this at another forum: Musicians Friend is having a call-in-only special on the Gibson Melody Maker in the Worn White finish only for $249.

I called MF to confirm it, and they said it's true. Don't know for sure how long it will last.

I think 249 for a US Gibson is a terrific deal (current MSRP is 699, street 489). Yeah, it has an economy finish but at that price, who cares?

I saw Ian McLagan & the Bump Band on Letterman tonight. Anybody else catch it?

He sang Never Say Never, the title track from his latest CD, Patty Griffin did backing vocals. I had not heard it before, and I may be wrong, but it sure sounded like it was written to his wife Kim, who was killed in an auto accident in suburban Austin about 3 years ago. Sounded heart-wrenching.

Mark Andes was not on bass, although he apparently toured with the band earlier this year. Ian's website says the new bassist is Ronnie Johnson, who also plays with James McMurtry.

Microsoft just changed its Live search, it's now called Bing.

The video page is pretty neat. Unlike Google, you can play the videos by just mousing over them instead of having to click and enlarge each one separately to see if you want to watch the whole thing. For example, here's Gibson SG, steel guitar rag.

No, I don't expect them to catch Google, still it's a cool feature.

My son Keith is selling two 4-stringers he got recently in a trade. He's a 5- and 6-string guy. Long story short, he traded an expensive bass for a less expensive one, and took the two 4-strings in trade in lieu of cash. Offering them here before putting them on eBay.

2007 4003 is Jetglo, Near Mint, only mark he can find is a scratch on the jackplate, apparently from a plug. Case is EX, has a few scuffs. Neck is thinner than the 1998-2003 Rics I owned but not as thin as 70s Rics. Has the newer "vintage" capacitor pull switch. Case candy includes case key and Ric booklet but no polishing cloth. $1400 shipped in continental US, including an unmounted Hipshot replacement bridge.

The Gibson SG Standard has had a street price of $1649 and the regular (not faded) SG Special has been $1249.

Now look at this announcement from Gibson yesterday: Gibson SGs - At Unbelievable New Prices

This hasn't reached the online dealers yet, I expect it will take a few days. That's a big drop, especially on the Special.
