Oh my. That's a good price for an unbroken Embassy. Looks original except for the knobs.

It is a good price.  Original knobs could drive it up another 25% or more.   :o

It's also missing the truss rod cover.  I'm still wondering how mine never checked in all these years.  It's not as if I babied it.  I'd bet you took better care of it than I did.   8)

Looks like an excellent price, assuming there are no issues.

Insanely affordable price...I personally think that the vintage guitar market is done and all vintage instruments will be affordable to us once again...or...Our investments have dropped.

Wow that is a very nice price. Hmmmmmmmmm I have never had a Embassy. I think prices will rise again maybe, not to pre 2008 levels. Right now there are defiantly bargains to be had.

I agree, Scott. I've scored many great basses and guitars off Craigslist when people started dumping them to get cash. I've even had two guys agree to hold basses for a week until I could roadtrip the couple of hours to go get them. The key is to say you'll pay cash, will pick it up and give the guy your phone number. THEN check back and give him a timetable.

It's also missing the truss rod cover.

And the mute felts, but still, not bad, at all.  I'd be all over it if I had the cash to throw around.

I wasn't implying that you bought it, don't you already have one? Just wondering aloud since there are other members here who might have been interested.

I didn't think you were implying anything as regards me. If I bought a second Embassy that would be final proof that I don't learn from mistakes!

Brrrrrr .... Embassy owners, I appreciate the cult aspect of your loved ones.

Super cool retro piece, but I'm happy with my $500 Les Paul as my "Thunderbird that's not a Thunderbird".  ;D

Hey Uwe,  what is it exactly about the Embassy that you don't like - just the chronic neck dive or...?
Title: Re: Nice Embassy bass at Bass NW
Post by: uwe on September 27, 2013, 10:54:13 AM
I think the bass is endearingly ugly at best and the neck dive is just hilarious, a bass made for gravity-free zones only, maybe NASA commissioned it. In your hands, it doesn't have the feeling of substantial-ness a Rev or Non Rev has, it feels nerdy. But I'm not really knocking it, it's cult. And there is nothing wrong with the sound.

I don't think the Embassy's got any neck dive worse that the T-bird. So I use them, quite regularly. The tone has an attack that could be desribed as cannon ball in barb wire.
In my eyes the Embassy is a beatiful bass. First time I saw one was on a record by Greg Kihn. Fell in love immediately! Hadn't any idea concerning manufacturer, but draw circles around it. After a few years, must have been in mid 90's, I learnt more about the Embassy. And the pickups, which I knew enough about since many years.
Then entered Ebay, and I found one for $ 1 000, 1999-2000 something. Realised there was only about 500 made of them. What would happen if something happened to her? So I saved my money, and bought another one, just like any responsible person would do.
If I had $ 2 000 laying around for unknown use, I would have bought the one that started this tread. Would feel nice to have one to give away to my son, and still feel that my players were intact.
Stupidity? Maybe. But remember: I enjoy every minute of it!

Yeah, I quite like the look of them myself.  I can see neck dive being a huge issue (I've only played one sitting down in a music shop) - those 60s slab mahogany bodies were so very lightweight and with those large cloverleaf tuners on that longscale neck with extended batwing headstock...

Thanks for elaborating Uwe.

I also like the Embassy a lot.  They look great to me, great necks, and the neck dive issue hardly bothers me since I have to hold on to the neck to play the damn thing anyway, what's the big deal?  The only two drawbacks to me are, one, that it doesn't sound as full as a T-bird, probably due to the thin body, and two, they have that damned extra pickup on there!

I'm guessing my '63 is in better shape.  Plus, it was owned by BOTH bass players of your "favorite" band at different times.  And, no, it's not a factor in value.  And I think you already had a date with one of the owners.

HA! HA!   I've hung out with Both Jon and Tom. Had a great time with both of them...in fact, Jon replaced me in Social Act! And when I went to see them at the Avalon, in Chicago, Jon was playing songs and basslines that I had co-written with Ellis Clark!!!.
Afterward, I went up to him complimenting him....but He was complimenting me from My gig a month before at the China Club!!! Great guy!
And Tom??? Well....

This was a beautiful bass. One of the nicest ones around. Unfortunately, This bass was shattered in transit! The idiots that packed at said store, stuffed it in a too small case and pushed the lid down and ducted taped it shut. headstock was in three pieces and the neck split lengthwise.I puked my guts out.....

I had that same feeling.  I'd be looking at either a refund/return, or some seriousl compensation to have it made right, provided that's even possible.

Dayum!

There just ain't no making that right - refund or GTFO.  Hope it was insured (but that shouldn't be your problem, and it may not be covered if the packing job really was asinine).

Do clarify if it was this Embassy from the OP, please.

That's inexcusable! They're a bass specialty store, not some general merchandise warehouse. They ought to know how to properly pack any bass, especially a mahogany Gibson or Epi.

Bummer!! When my EB-4L was delivered, the UPS guy threw it over his shoulder, it went behind his back & landed on it's headstock. My wife saw this & told him it was a vintage guitar, he could have cared less. Luckily, it was packed well & wasn't broken. I had my doubts upon opening it though.............

That's awful!  Such a beautiful bass, and it made it all these years intact...  >:(

I feel like an a$$ if I buy something and start explaining to the guy how to pack it... but then as soon as I don't, I get a freakin guitar case with shipping label stuck on it sitting outside my door (true story).  A specialty dealer should know how to ship this kind of stuff.  Lame.

Whomever packed it for shipping has no business ever setting foot again in a guitar store as an employee.

As many basses as they (BassNW) do ship, I'd say it's inexcusable.

Most sorry for your loss.
