The Epi Nikki Sixx is a nice bass. It doesn't beat the Gibson Blackbird which I still think is the meanest and leanest TBird sound around, but what it lacks in piano rrring, it has in blurry warmth and overall thud.
Wonder how that new Gibson Blackbird will sound with the maple wings. I have one on order, but that is not saying much, because I once had a Continental V on order too!
"I think the Epiphone bass is the best available in its price range. The sound is miles ahead of any bass out there."
I don't think he's saying the Epi is better than the Gibson. Just better than its price range competitors.
Wait...you still haven't got your Continental? ;)

Neither did I, especially as he will soon have to endorse the new Gibson Blackbird. Whether the Epi Blackbird is better than any other budget bass? Let's just say it is a very good instrument for the money, but that other makers can offer something as good for as low a price as well. An entry level Iceman from Ibanez isn't any worse.
But you can get sounds with the Epi you can't get with the (old) Gibson Blackbird. The latter is more of a fencing rapier, it cuts through without bludgeoning, while the Epi is a battle axe with a phat, but not terribly focused sound.
QuoteNIKKI: Pete Way from Mott the Hoople and John Entwhistle from The Who both played them and the first time I picked one up it felt like the right instrument for me.
Well, at least he merged the same instrument in the quote. And who says that years of heroin abuse doesn't fog your memory... ???
:)
Why do people always say 'Entwhistle' to Entwistle and 'Townsend' to Townshend?
He also says he likes the NY Dolls. Didn't Arthur 'Killer' Kane used a Bird too?
Nikki Sixx doesn't sound like a real name either and the spelling is ääwwkkwwäärrdd ...
You have a point there....

Thats because it isn't, his name is Frank Carlton Serafino Feranna, Jr.

I suppose next you're gonna tell me that Rat Scabies, Sid Vicious and Bun E.Carlos are only stage names.
I think there was a musician named Nicky Syks or Sykes (spelling?) that Nikki stole the name from. The guy later turned up calling him the Devil and bitching about him stealing the name.
One of the craziest stage names I've ever heard was "Smog Vomit" from the 80's L.A. punk band Tex & the Horseheads. (George might remember them since he was from that part of the country at that time. No one else seems to remember them but me.)
punk bands always had the best stage names..
Frank Discussion from the Feederz,Lux Interior/the Cramps,Buxf Parrot/the Dicks
I always liked Bianca Butthole.
Mick Mars = Robert Alan Deal
Geddy Lee = Gary Lee Weinrib (he took the stage name from how his grandmother used to call him) Hey, I'm also a Gary Lee...
Alex Lifeson = Alexandar Zivojinovich (last name translates as Son of Life)
The list could go on forever.

That's a much better stage name than Nikki Sixx!
I always liked the story about the Ramones. Paul McCartney used the Ramone name to check in hotels.

I never said it was better.
No, that's my opinion!
Oh, thought you were being sarcastic.

Great White checks in as Ned, Ted, Fred, Jed & Ed Zeppelin. haha
The Epi is cool, the Blackbird's even cooler.
When I met Nikki aka Frank in 2007 @ NAMM I told him I hadn't found a lefty T-bird yet.
Now I at least have a black lefty Tokai T-bird. I dig my Epi V tooo
Coool that he's gonna be performing in both Sixx A.M. & Mötley Crüe at Crüe Fest.
The Faces were banned out of all Holliday Inns, so they started checkin' in as Fleetwood Mac. I dunno if FM had any trouble with that;)
Luther Grosvenor = Ariel Bender
My old guitarist used Ariel Bender as a code name when calling collect to our manager. It was his clue to call back. Nothing like having a Mott The Hoople fan (like me) for a bandmate.

Thinking of Fleetwood Mac...I think my favorite stage names would be Phester Swollen and Nigel Nitro of The Rotters, if for no other reason than their "Sit On My Face Stevie Nicks" got Mick Fleetwood so mad that he threatened a lawsuit over it. :)

I always call a friend at his work with fake names. I mostly use too long and too difficult sounding foreign names from foreign companies. I know the girl at the reception has to write all the incoming callers down, so I make her life a bit difficult. But I guess she recognizes my voice now, and she has fun of it too.
We have a very bad singer in Holland called Dries Roelvink. My friend always calls me back as Roel Vink.

I remember the band and that Nicky guy too. As for the Pete Way/Mott quote, I
really hope that was the interviewer's mistake and not Frank's...
Luther Grosvenor = Ariel Bender I always loved his work on MTH Live. One of my all time favorite guitar players. Man he made that LP Jr. scream.
i would use ian paice as an alias for some 'adventures' in my mispent youth. i feel so lame.
Not a name but when travelling in sth East Asia I always put my occupation as Social biologist ;D
still gives me a giggle.
A friend of mine always fills in 'scale model' as occupation.
