The Epi Nikki Sixx is a nice bass. It doesn't beat the Gibson Blackbird which I still think is the meanest and leanest TBird sound around, but what it lacks in piano rrring, it has in blurry warmth and overall thud.

Wonder how that new Gibson Blackbird will sound with the maple wings. I have one on order, but that is not saying much, because I once had a Continental V on order too!

"I think the Epiphone bass is the best available in its price range. The sound is miles ahead of any bass out there."

I don't think he's saying the Epi is better than the Gibson. Just better than its price range competitors.

Wait...you still haven't got your Continental?  ;)

Neither did I, especially as he will soon have to endorse the new Gibson Blackbird. Whether the Epi Blackbird is better than any other budget bass? Let's just say it is a very good instrument for the money, but that other makers can offer something as good for as low a price as well. An entry level Iceman from Ibanez isn't any worse.

But you can get sounds with the Epi you can't get with the (old) Gibson Blackbird. The latter is more of a fencing rapier, it cuts through without bludgeoning, while the Epi is a battle axe with a phat, but not terribly focused sound.

QuoteNIKKI: Pete Way from Mott the Hoople and John Entwhistle from The Who both played them and the first time I picked one up it felt like the right instrument for me.

Well, at least he merged the same instrument in the quote.  And who says that years of heroin abuse doesn't fog your memory...   ???

:)

Why do people always say 'Entwhistle'  to Entwistle and 'Townsend' to Townshend?

He also says he likes the NY Dolls. Didn't Arthur 'Killer' Kane used a Bird too?

Nikki Sixx doesn't sound like a real name either and the spelling is ääwwkkwwäärrdd ...

I suppose next you're gonna tell me that Rat Scabies, Sid Vicious and Bun E.Carlos are only stage names.

Nocturnal

I think there was a musician named Nicky Syks or Sykes (spelling?) that Nikki stole the name from. The guy later turned up calling him the Devil and bitching about him stealing the name.

One of the craziest stage names I've ever heard was "Smog Vomit" from the 80's L.A. punk band Tex & the Horseheads. (George might remember them since he was from that part of the country at that time. No one else seems to remember them but me.)
