As always, Dave is the voice of reason (while I lean toward the impetuous and spontaneous behaviors!), so I had my designer friend Chuck design some sample logos for me. Here's what he came up with. I like the first two a lot. What do you guys think? Once I decide, I'm gonna bite the bullet and spend $150 to register it as a trademark to avoid any issues down the road. Since Bassman is owned by Fender, I'll probably go on the record as Dr Bass or some such derivation.

Nice concepts!
Although I appreciate the symmetry of the top two, I honestly think that the bottom center one works the best. It's clear, readable and yet has nice style to it. I think I'd work on the "r" a little bit and possibly leave the ascender on it.
I took the liberty... and I have no idea why it's appearing on a blue background.

Top right or bottom right gets my vote!

Yeah, I have an affinity for the little "r", but I do realize the logos without it look nice and clean too. I agree, if I use the "r" it needs the ascender on it.

Thanks Scott. I'm leaning that way too! We have good taste.
top2 & bottom right.
Bottom right gets my vote.
Looking at all these later on, I'd go with bottom right as well, which resolves that entire "r" issue!
I like top right best.
Bottom right with one cavaet...
DB:
... making the lower part of the "B" look "bass clef" like...

I see your idea. Maybe we'll play with that. I was trying hard to include the clef, but it wasn't working the way I wanted.
I'm a late entry, but the top right in the original set of images is REALLY classy! That's my vote.
Top right #1. Graphically it holds together better than any of the others. Bottom right is also #2 for me.
Top right is super cool! Now, if you could curve that "b"s look like a NR tbird body, that would be really something... :D
I like the bottom right one, I also like the top left one as well but it kinda reminds me of something...well, without saying it you may notice it to

Exactly my thoughts! The top right for side-by-side headstocks and the bottom right for the inline ones.
The Dr. thing always makes me think of this ;D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tuS7Yap0KY
Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. It's really helpful!

tell ya what Hoss, i'm darn tempted to have you put one of those logos on the LP, upper right or lower right...next time for sure.
right now i have all three eyeballs on three auctions so i had better not think about logos too long or i'm a gonna lose out, but i like those two.

I can do that if my inlay guy can make them up for me. I'm gonna send him an email this weekend to get an estimate.
Bill
The db one is cool. The dog's bollucks!! lol
How 'bout making the bass clef a capital D? lD:
Hard to explain, but I'm thinking the vertical line of D could be like half as long as usual, to make the bass clef your D. Savvy?
Maybe make the double loop on the capital B similar to the bass clef. lD:lB
I like the top right one. Looks more unique to me.
Do you mean something like the top two I changed?

I'll see what I can do. Going print out some samples on paper to get an idea of size and fit. I wouldn't want to remove the Epi logo, it's a nice piece.

I like the original top right logo. The second version isn't bad, but the two dots might get lost if they are too small.

Yeah, if I go that route, they'd have to be larger. Still not sure............ ???
Orig top right!
i like both the top designs but if it were me:
i would make the "dots" bigger (about the same width of the down stroke) and just the edge of them to the "b" downstroke. might have to spread them apart a bit but try it on some software if you can and see what you think. it would make it look like a bass clef i believe.
iffin' your gonna be a bear then be a grizzly!
something like this only drawn correctly using both eyeballs, little bigger dots and close but outside the "b" body downstroke is my suggestion.

That's pretty cool, sniper, but I'd like to see the bass clef clearly, not just implied.
Hey Doc~ You could reverse the bass clef to make the small d too.
Use purpleheart wood for the inside of the heart thus formed. ...or redwood. :D
Make the lines forming d & b a color (gold, maybe?) & do the bass clef & it's reverse in black.
I did several drawings last night of various ideas I'll have to scan at Kinko's & put here.
Wow, you guys are going crazy! Don't go too far, I really am leaning toward the original upper right one the more we kick this around. As much as I love the bass clef, I'm appreciating the simplicity of the original top two designs. There's something really nice about the symmetry too.

A+
It will become what you make it Bill and I am sure it will become what you dream it will be. I learned that as a businessman that I could not be all things to all customers and that there is no such thing as a noble faliure. I lived my dreams a few times and have been blessed many times over.
You will be defined by your returning and new customers as well as the feeling you get when you finally close the guitar case and ship your product. With the effort you are putting forth and the respect you are showing me, I plan on returning.
What more can I state other than the fact that I am proud you are doing my first build and that I plan on passing this bass on to one of my grand children after I play it many many times.
After all the other suggestions, I still vote for the original upper right.
I like the pic with the chick sniper! Too much routing though. :-\
Thanks for the advice and kudos too. I hope I live up to your expectations. Man, you make me blush! I am proud you have faith in me as well. I'll always do my best!
OK, I asked my wife for an opinion on the logo and guess which one she liked? Top right! She liked that it looks like a heart. ;) So, that's the winner. Thanks for all of the comments and discussion. Now we'll get her trademarked and see if we can get them mass produced.
Another idea. I know a place where I could have it done in die cast metal, all nice and chromey! What do you guys think of that as an option??? I love the old Kay metal logos (in fact I love anything vintage). Just a thought.
FYI, I just got a sweet deal from my inlay guy. He'll make my logos out of MOP for about $12 each! Wow, that's a good deal IMHO.
Now I gotta decide how tall to make it..............

I double checked the chrome die cast set up and it's hundreds more than the MOP costs. So, we'll start with MOP first and maybe look into chrome if people take a chance and buy my future basses. Now if I could just get my ass out of full time work.............

Yeah, that is a nice one too! I do think the symmetric look is really cool. I'm still considering a couple dots on mine as well. hey can always be added!
Logos came in today. Pics coming! ;D
Well, they turned out great. I like them a lot and Andy DePaul does great work!
hmmmmmm ... will it fit on the distal end of a hockey stick headstock?
Here you go! I'll have to check on the hockey stick neck, they might be a bit big. I'll give it a look and see.

Maybe. WHat do you think? I'd have to figure out how to touch things up after routing. Blackened epoxy should fill any gaps etc. and final polishing do the rest?

I like the ebony circle idea on the lower bout. Let me look into that for you. I think the headstock is just a bit too small for it.
"bass" side bout = upper bout, the smaller one like where a switch usually goes on a Les Paul.

Yes. If you were to put it in the place shown in the top photo, it would look better at about 3/4 of the current size.

Thanks, a friend of mine designed it for me and I got input from the gang here regarding its final look. I'm regustering it as a trademark this week.
too bad it would be too difficult to put a 1/16" bead around the ebony/rosewood disc before you set it in the upper bout on snipers spaltercaster.

See, I have to find them ...then clean them . I find these projects & start tinkering so I never really get ahead of the mess. I decided to concentrate on the reorganization /cleaning but man is it tough.
I am gonna crank up the lathe for a repair on a friends Windsor chair. I may throw a piece o rosewood on there & give her a spin for ya

It's going to get a logo treatment this weekend and then I can finally start some finish work on it.
as much as i love to see installments on my bass, i am really looking for new updates on the Billy-Bo, the EB rebuild along with a pic of the vacuum press.
On this build (CW's), if it doesn't suit the head, how about placing it on the neck...?
In the 12th or the 5th...?
