While restoring the 60s NR, I got the bright idea to start an all-maple clone (don't ask me why, I'm still wondering what I was thinking!!!). Anyway, I'll be finishing that one up this weekend. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I tell ya that bass is just stunning!
Why can't Gibson just re-issue one?
It is kind of fun making/restoring one .
I find it far more rewarding then buying something complete.

I agree! The GOW idea was OK, but just changing wood or colors on existing models wasn't exactly rocket science nor was it a revolutionary idea (ala F*nd*r!). It is rewarding to create something, especially a model that is unique and not just a knock-off. The only problem is wanting to do another..then another....then another........it's just another form of GAS! :P
Speaking of "another," after I finish my 98 LP and 2003 TB restorations, I'll probably do a JE Fender Bird? I just can't help myself! I am so hooked on TBs!
Like your other projects, this bass looks incredible!!!
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I can't wait to try this one !

Geez, with all of the other flotsam ans jetsom they floated down the river lately, need I mention the Reverse V, you think Gibson could toss the public a bone. If they looked at the vintage market they would see that it would make sense.
And +1 on building and restoring - I have a jones for it myself.
I love the color, and I've never like Butterscotch before :-[, but his one just looks right. Once again - killer job!
I'm curious as to what the all maple makes it sound like - anyway you post some some sound clips?

It'll be ready soon!!! It's not going to be ready today as planned. I have to replace some wood in the pup routs before the adjustment screws will fit properly. Almost there.............
Wow! Thats looks sweet.
Seeing this makes me yearn for that BaCHbird...
Hey and what do those controls do?
cheers, Rob

The front two are vol and the back 2 are tone. The 3-way is a simple LP-style that switches between either pup or turns them both on at the center position. Nothing too fancy. I'm pretty much a both-pups full on kinda guy, but once in awhile it's nice to flip between them.
Thats sweet, you do excellent work.

You have to something indoors up there in Winter - I understand that it's chilly sometimes not to mention the polar bears out looking for their next meal :P

No competition here, just fellow bassists who love to tinker and happen to live up the road from one another.
It is funny that we live about 10 min from each other, must be something in the water.

To be honest, you are somewhat correct. Once winter sets in up here (100-200 inches of snow per year), I settle into my home and wait it out. I've always loved woodworking and have only had time for it the last 2 years with both of my kids out of the house. I'm not a skier and I'm not into skating any longer. I guess snowshoeing is the next stage for us geezers! :P
Not exactly the nitro friendly environment
Final pics...........

Sweet looking bass. You do fine work.
Definitely it is crying for a Five ply black pickguard with a white bird logo
no,it looks perfect the way it is.
Thanks guys! I'm leaving it without a pickguard for the time being. I like the grain showing through. I felt a little guilty using the Gibson truss rod cover since it's obviously not a genuine Gibson, but it just looks so nice.
very nice, Dr B! looks great sans guard to me.
Yeah, looks great as is.
I'd leave it like it is.
I prefer your real one - edges seem more rounded on it -, but this is nice too. What is lurking underneath those chrome retro pup covers?
The pups are USA Gibson from a defunct Orville TB bass. I got them from a forum member in one of the other hangouts. Once I figure out my wiring mistakes, they should sound pretty good!
On a maple bass? I'm interested to hear the results. I find the TB Plus pups a bit too sharp/rough on maple.
Here's a coupla pix of my '67 NR Frost Blue repro. I made templates from my original and made the body from mahogany, using a Warmoth Jazz width neck (bubinga) and set it in. Pickups and bridge are my repros. It's a tad heavy but sounds and plays unreal.
Wow the frost blue looks great Tony.
Sure does, I like it!
