There certainly wasn't any production MIA Fender Tele Bass in 93 and it's definitely not from the custom shop. Also it has a 4-saddle toploader bridge, unlikely Fender would have done that on a reissue of a first edition Tele Bass.
I am not sure what to make of that. Looks wrong can't put my finger on it.
The serial number is wrong. There should be no gap between the N and the digits. Also, in 93 it would have been on the front of the headstock. The truss rod adjusting hole location is wrong for a US Fender of that era, too far from the nut. And the grain on that headstock doesn't look like North American rock maple.
I suppose it could possibly be an Asian Fender never imported here, with faked US serial number. More likely it's a parts bass.

You betcha. "it was under their father's bed for a long long time" LOL! You might expect that on a 53 or 63 bass, not a 93.
Bottom line, somebody's gonna get fleeced.
