I stopped into South Austin Music Friday afternoon and along with the usual assortment of low price Chinese imports, there was a late 60s Guild Starfire I bass with the one Hagstrom Bisonic pickup in the bridge position. It's in pretty good shape, missing the treble side finger rest and the nitro has been eaten in places (probably by a chemical reaction with a case or gig bag). It's $1699 with gig bag (no original case). I have no idea if that's low, high or about right, but I wanted to pass it along in case anyone's interested. Unfortunately their website is minimal and they don't have a stock list online.
I'm not really a Guild fan but this one sure sounded nice and vintage-y with Roto tapewounds through a Roland cube amp.
Some acts I've never heard of here, but some well known names too: Neko Case, Wilco, Michelle Shocked, JJ Cale, Bob Mould, Mavis Staples, The Redwalls, Ted Nugent, Duke Robillard, Girl In a Coma, even Suzanne Vega.
He only made the Top 40 once in the US (Niki Hoeky) but he did have some, ermmm, exposure in the UK in the 60s. Here he is being introduced by some guys: http://youtube.com/watch?v=w2mIgL51qkg
I subscribe to the Security Fix blog at the Washington Post. The latest post is a must-read if you use IE and a particular ActiveX control to transfer pics from Photobucket, etc. to MySpace (or Facebook, etc.).
