Gibson Basses / Re: Gibson Factory Tour.
« on: April 06, 2014, 07:33:15 AM »
The tour is a lot of fun but it's tightly controlled. No cameras allowed.

One tip is to try to go before 3pm on a weekday. You'll likely see more people actually working then. And give yourself some time to hang out in the factory store. It's not really a factory store as the vast majority of instruments in the store were not made at the factory. It's more of a Gibson store that happens to be located at the factory. You can't plug in or strap on any of the instruments but you can sit on a stool and play them. They had a few basses in the store.

Enjoy Memphis! My wife and I visited in February and had a great time.

I picked up this 7" in 1980 and have always thought of this as post-punk.

The Outpost Cafe / Saw Paul Rodgers
« on: February 19, 2014, 08:07:26 PM »
My wife and I lucked into seeing Paul Rodgers and the Hi Rhythm Section at a CD release party this past weekend in Studio A at the Stax studio/museum in Memphis. Awesome show. I had to pinch myself. Paul was very gracious and hung out after the show for a long time signing autographs and talking with fans. The new CD "The Royal Sessions" was recorded with many of the original Hi Records studio musicians at Royal Studios where Al Green etc. recorded. The CD is great if you like this kind of music and he's donating all profits from the CD to support music education in Memphis. Paul looked really good and his voice sounds a lot like it did 40 years ago.

After the show I approached Leroy Hodges Jr. (Hi Rhythm bassist) to thank him and say how great he sounded. He seems like a humble man. He sat behind the backup singers and it was hard to see him during the show. He played a Peavey Foundation and it really did sound fantastic. Reminded me that it's the player, not the bass.

Also went on the Gibson factory tour while in Memphis. I did not see a single bass in the entire factory. But the tour is worth the time if you happen to be in Memphis.

Alice Cooper is opening! It looks like a grueling tour schedule, 44 shows in July and August, all in different cities. September off and then the same pace in October and November.

I'd bet he has more fun after the show than a lot of bass players.

I thought for a minute that was an Epiphone Genesis.

If he paid you, even if it was eight months ago, it belongs to him. Your Paypal account will have his shipping address in your transaction history.

If I were in your shoes I would do one of two things. Either ship it (without the letter) to the address he sent you with the payment or hang on to the skin until he responds to your email.

If you decide to relist it you should refund his Paypal account.

It could be worse. I'd much rather hear this than listen to (or look at) Cher.

I agree. It's more interesting than a lot stuff out there. And, she's 80.

Yeah, I'll bet he's done it before. Not necessarily with a bass, but with other things in his life. At least he says he'll send it back.

Yep, doubt it's a one time thing. I would also guess he has trouble with money and relationships. Your decision to move on is wise. "Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die".
