Gibson Basses / intermodulated melody maker mudbucker
« on: March 31, 2008, 01:27:18 PM »
Sorry for the silly subject line - but one of the main effects on here is the Death By Audio Harmonic Transformer, which they describe as "intermodulating fuzz". I recorded the basic tracks for this tune in 2005, worked on it in 2006, then shelved it away. I finally dug it back up, even though it still needs a lot of work. It was originally a drum & bass jam, over which I overdubbed some 6-string bass that had a lot of mistakes, so I rerecorded the bass part with my Melody Maker bass with the signal split between regular distortion (Fulltone Bass Drive? I don't remember now!) and the aforementioned Harmonic Transformer, which is the grungier fuzz, probably over more towards the left speaker. There are some stacked harmonies in the middle which is my Ric 4001 through the Fulltone, and some filtering and some crazy electronic stuff, but I think I'll just post the link and let you listen:

The Outpost Cafe / Frank Zappa beer?!!!
« on: March 16, 2008, 07:40:14 PM »
Well, OK, maybe that's a misnomer, more like "beer commemorating Frank Zappa":

Lagunitas Brewing Co. is releasing 22 oz. bottles commemorating the 40th anniversaries of Frank Zappa's albums.

When the "Lumpy Gravy" one came out, I decided to get more creative with my commemorative pictures of these commemorative bottles.

Keep an eye out - "We're Only In It For The Money" is due in April!

Other Bass Brands / alembic mania
« on: March 15, 2008, 12:18:59 AM »
Last year we had the first "San Francisco Bay Area/Northern Calfornia Alembic Gathering," and tomorrow is going to be the sequel! You can see pics from last year's gathering here at the Alembic Club. Last year I took a ridiculous amount of gear:

(my stuff is the PJB Suitcase, Epiphani cab and rack with Glockenklang Soul Head and Alembic F-2B (not wired up if I remember correctly); Alembic Spoiler/Exploiter not pictured)

This year I'm leaving the PJB and Exploiter at home and just taking the doubleneck, Epiphani, and rack with an SF-2 replacing the F-2B.

Should be fun! I'll post pictures when I get back. In the meantime, feel free to post pics of your Alembics!

About $2000. Text says the tortoise-shell pickguard is non-original (duh?).

Gibson Basses / Gene Simmons EB-0 (KISS content)
« on: February 21, 2008, 03:02:29 PM »
Following up on this thread, I found an article on one of the Gibson basses Gene Simmons used in the early years of KISS. I seem to remember there was a bass purporting to have belonged to Mr. Simmons on eBay, and a thread back in the DP2 days? Well, I was throwing out some magazines (recycle of course), and clipped this:

Any thoughts? I have higher resolution scans if anyone is interested, or maybe I can just post them here.

The Bass Zone / cats & their basses
« on: February 03, 2008, 04:54:30 PM »
We think we own all that gear, or that house, but deep down we know that our cats are just letting us use them for the time being. For example, Sadie, my 12 year old black cat, and my 1975 Alembic Series I doubleneck:

She even lets me use the case:

(I didn't feel right posting cat pictures in a dog thread, so I started this one - post away!)
