Title: THE COVERSALE /// 'ERE'S SOMETHING MORE CEREBRAL FOR YOU ...
Post by: uwe on February 15, 2019, 11:34:56 AM
Do I detect traces of self-irony?  :)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKMwGzOmtsE

Also instructive for the other Dave (W): See, that is how a Dr. Feelgood audience did not look like!  ;D

Fire, desire, much, touch, need, guranteed ... my, Herr Coverdale needs a Thesaurus, he's been doing the same rhymes for 40 years now.

Wot, no "luv'" with "tough" this time?

And he doesn't live in California. He lives in friggin' Lake Tahoe and drives an SUV, that Jag couldn't move even a few yards in the winters they have there.  ;D

An official music video? Hardly representative of a live audience. You could just as well hire a group of left-handed lesbian midget albino Eskimos to be your audience and claim they were your fan base.

Tale of a fake band with a fake fan base going on a "tour" with empty venues.

Does Mr. Coverdale not know you shouldn't leave your head lights on when you park your car?
I had expected the video would end with a drained car battery and all those curly women would have to push his car out of that back street alley.

By the way, this must be the first Whitesnake song that does not feature a guitar solo. Wow, how contemporary!

Huh? It features even two solos! First the Night Ranger guy before DC even sings, then in the middle Reb Beach with his Vai impersonation.

Nice Ric there.

Something which I think might have been more noticeable had it not been for the car wash-girls distraction.  I kept wondering if someone was going to make a Tawny Kitaen-like appearance on the video.  They did get pretty close.  But maybe it's time for new ideas for videos.

The groom could have done worse. Coverdale's marriages - if sequential over the decades - were largely stable, at least the first (Julia, about 10 years) and the last/third/current one (Cindy, more than 20 years by now). Only Tawny lasted a mere two years or so in between, I guess she was cut out for lots of things, but not a lasting marriage.

Actually, the women and girls in that new vid mostly don't look like models at all, but more like "girl-next-door-on-a-night-out"-types. No 80ies glam queens, freshly hatched from a ZZ Top or Whitesnake vid. That is actually one of the few redeeming qualities of that vid and I bet it wasn't an accident, but a conscious move. Or maybe Cindy was adamant!  ;)

I also noticed the video had the girl-next-door look to it.  It would be interesting to know the back story behind that video.

... and David unfortunately has nothing like good taste.  :-[

Ouch. A DP site called it a "a valhalla of decadence".

https://vimeo.com/304721322

David is meanwhile an American citizen, but not being born as one, he can't become President though his interior design (if you want to call it that) tastes are not too far away from a certain incumbent's ones.

I think if I was Cindy Coverdale, I'd want to leave this behind too.  :)

None of the pictures look real to me. To me it seems as if they're all computer renderings. Especially the wood looks fake.

That's because you are a naïve European who assumes it was actually built with wood! (humming Westside Story melody) .... ra-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta Amerrrrica!!!!

They are obviously heavily doctored, but so is the owner of the realty. From the outside, I actually like the style (kitsch garden decorations excepted), but the inside is a house of horrors. It looks like a mix of Trump and Clockwork Orange, with debris from US baroque interior design thrown in.

It would be very befitting indeed.
But I still think they're just artist impressions. Which is even more fake (just like DCs live vocals)

I don't mind saying that this is pretty much what I expect from a Whitesnake vid, it doesn't disappoint! Is dumb, yes! Is good dumb? Yes. Good dumb isn't as easy as it looks. :-*

That house could use a lighting specialist though, don't you think, Mark?

Like no lighting at all, so you see less of the interior horrors!  :rimshot:

I wonder if that Jag actually still runs?

My older son had an XJ for a while, I think it was a 12 cylinder model. It was a huge money pit. I sold it for him when he was stationed in Korea for a year. He was very happy to see it gone.

The 12 cylinder model was the pits, even worse than the six cylinder one.

Mmmm.... As I recall, there was an aftermarket kit available for the XJS to swap in a small block Chevy.  :puke:
I'd rather keep the V12 and make the car a lawn ornament.

Backinnaday, there were a number of E-type Jags converted to Chevy small blocks, too.  Now heresy, but back then, expediency.

I texted Keith tonight and asked him which model he had. His answer: "XJS Moneypit Edition."

I'll never forget the head case who bought it from him. He drove 500 miles (round trip) to see it at my house, decided he wanted it, and wired the money to Keith in Korea. The deal was done. Instead of coming back, he hired an auto transport company. The driver damaged the front end while loading it, and the crazy buyer wanted to undo the whole deal.  I had to stand firm. It was already his.

"XJS" and "money pit" are redundant terms.

That's 3 to 0 compared to the originals.

I tried a new one recently for a few days, the XF Sportbrake, played with the idea of switching to something else than Volvo for once.

It's a well-made car, no issue. TATA know their business. But that aggressive rear-wheel drive ...  ??? After 25 years of driving about 10 different 4-wheel-drive Volvos, I was startled to drive a car that burns rubber and becomes unruly if you speed it up in a curve and that needs to be steered to drive a straight line :o on the Autobahn going a mild 170 km/h. With my Volvos, I can go 225 km/h or more on the Autobahn (when it's empty in the wee-wee hours of the morning, I'm a nocturnal worker) and there is no need to steer, they are "driving on rails". With the Jag, I constantly had the feeling that its butt wanted to be in front of its snout which seems to get lighter with every additional km/h. I'm too old for that. ;D Leave that to the BMW drivers half my age with ghetto flat black finish. 8) Don't get me wrong, I like a powerful car (my Volvo V 90 has more than 300 hp, the Jag I tested had less), but I want optimal traction at all times, not rubber being scraped over the asphalt. A car that is confident and strong, not vicious and hyper.

So that was my recent Jag experience which did not turn me into a convert, I guess I'm more lichen-munching stability ...

than tensed-up feline ...

Your Volvo was/is pretty plush as I recall, a bit more so than the BMW wagon we rented the next day and used for the remainder of our stay. I think its a much wiser choice than a Jaguar, which must somehow actually be an acronym for Fix Or Repair Daily. :-*

I like the Volvos a lot, but I'd probably have gone with the Jag.  It would be more similar to my BMW 3-series wagon.  I am quite comfy with a RWD bias. (And I like more than a little "Yee-Haw" when driving.)

I don't know much about it really, but I've always looked at being interested in and collecting cars as being in a fairly close second place to being interested in and collecting musical instruments.  I've got close friends, though, who would add motorcycles to that list.
