Gibson Basses / Re: Non-Reverse on Ebay.

How do you know it's the same bass? There's no photo on the Craigslist ad. If that is the same bass then the Craigslist price is an insane deal in my opinion.

Yeah, it's definitely somewhat of a train wreck but as long as the repairs are solid it might be pretty cool after a refin, new pickguard and a few other minor repairs. As we all know, the headstock repair on these things is very common, I have seen NR Birds go for a lot more than this that have also had a headstock repair but usually those ones at least look better or have at least been restored already. This one is tough because it looks like crap so it's probably a pretty big turn off for most people.

Gibson Basses / Non-Reverse on Ebay.

Wow, look what just popped up on Ebay. I know it has issues but man I wish I could afford to buy this. It has been repaired, I think it's worth it for parts alone. I think all the repairs would be easily disguised once it was all refinished. I'm sure someone on here must be interested in this, right?

That's what I was thinking. It must improve the sound to some degree.

I had a feeling the Ebay ones were actually blades. They have other Artec pickups on Ebay that have poles and look more like Music Man pickups and I had a feeling that they just assumed that these were configured the same way. I don't need it now anyway because I just bought a pickup off of TBird1958 that he removed from his Bachbird. I plan on covering the pickups with the greatdealz NOS chrome covers I got but I am still wondering if I should try to remove the plastic covers from the pickups or just file the corners on the original cover like Rob did. I would love to remove the plastic covers and be able to use the actual mounting holes from the NOS covers but I have never done anything like that before and I don't know anything about pickups, etc. but I am usually pretty good at rigging things up in general. I would hate to ruin the pickups by trying it though, obviously.

Yes, I saw that post and that's what I was thinking of doing I just hope that my friend's friend with the CNC machine can pull it off. Thanks for the reply.

Chromium,
Hey, not sure if you remember but a while ago I asked you where you got your pickguard made and you told me that you got it at Terrapin. Well, I just got an email from Terrapin saying that he no longer will make that pickguard. Damn. My question for you is, did you use Rob's template to get that made or a different one? I have Rob's template and I have a friend of a friend that has a cnc machine and claims can make me one for cheap. I would ask Godofthunder (Scott, I think) but I want one that is Black/white/Black. Thanks.

I'm interested to know what you think of the pickups, please let us know.

And no, the bass has not been repaired yet. Rob ordered me a new one and he's trying to get the shipping people to pay for it but of course they are resisting a bit. Rob and I agreed that we would put the damaged bass on Ebay and try to make up some of the costs. I think I am going to put it up without repairing it and see what we can get for it and if it doesn't sell we will have it repaired and then re-list it. The bass is definitely salvageable, the crack really is not that bad, I have definitely seen way, way worse. But at the end of the day it is still a crack so I'm not sure if anyone will be interested. Fixing the crack doesn't seem like it will be too difficult but then you have to deal with refinishing it and matching the color, etc. Other than the crack it is 100% mint.

I honestly don't think I would want to pay more than $20 for one since I already know I will change it out eventually.

Damn it. Is anything easy in this world? Ha..ha. Does anyone have an extra one they want to sell for around the same price? I don't want to spend a lot on it because I already know I'm going to replace it at some point.

Or does anyone know if the one on Ebay will work out ok? It's the same size and it's also a bass pick up. Obviously it will sound different but I wonder how different.

Does anyone know if this is the same pickup as the ones in the Bachbird? It's looks the same. I'm waiting for my single pickup Bachbird and I want to convert it to a 2 pickup model so I want to start making plans for it now so I was thinking of buying this off of Ebay. I want Lull's but I already know that that is not going to happen for a very long time. Oh, and also already have 2 chrome NOS pickup covers ready to go.

Other Bass Brands / Re: Ibanez Thunderbird
« on: May 19, 2010, 11:13:05 AM »
Wait, what is going on here? I know about the Greco's and Orville's but I never knew that Ibanez made a  Thunderbird. That's crazy. Of course I know that Ibanez and other big guitar manufacturers have made Jazz bass, P. Bass, Les Paul, Strat rip offs but I never knew Ibanez made a Thunderbird. I feel like other rip offs by major companies at least tried to change the headstock shape or something in an attempt to not get sued but that T-bird looks pretty much like an exact rip off. Did it actually come with the T-bird logo on the pickguard like that or did someone add that at some point? Crazy.

Cool, yes, please let me know.

So I know Rob and maybe some others have taken the Bachbird Artec pickup and filed the corners and covered it with the greatdealz covers but I was wondering if anyone has successfully removed the actual Artec chrome/plastic cover? I think that would be better probably for the sound and so that way you might be able to actually use the mounting screw holes on the greatdealz cover to install the pickup. For all you guys that have swapped out the Artec pickups for better pickups and have the Artec pickup laying around and not being used, is this something you would be interested in experimenting with?

Yeah, I got the one pickup model too but I am planing on adding a second pickup at some point and getting better pickups but I am sure that I won't be able to afford that any time soon.
