Actually, I always thought the "l instead of r" was a racist clichée as regards the Japanese, spawned in large part by US WW II propaganda cartoons. There are a lot of "r"-sounds in the Japanese language, I'm sure they don't say "Hiloshima" or "domo aligato (Mistel Loboto?)".

With Chinese interns at our firm I've heard it myself. It's not so much that they can't pronounce it as that shaping the sound of an r is unaccustomed to them, just like we have to try harder with "th" or you guys have issues getting the Umlauts ä, ö and ü right.

Our Japanes lresidents please speak up then. This folum is dedicated to ze scientific tluth.

China's a huge place with countless local dialects.  The Chinese I know use the 'R' sound all the time,  phonetically 'are" is the number 2, 'ling' is zero and Lyu is 6.

Hillbilly Sicilians commonly use a 'd' sound in place of an 'l'. instead of bella (beautiful) they say bedduh and p sounds become b's  as in Bizza(what you eat) and Butana (what you...)

Nukular anyone?

Hey Ken, does that little old Chinese lady still run the Chinese takeaway near you on Hawks road?  Ask her for a can of Lilt for me will ya! Just for old times sake.  ;D

You have a stlange sense of humoul, Blet... ahh so... ;D

I can't remember the last time I drove down Hawks road now but the pub up near the New Malden end, I was working there one morning when a "poacher" wearing camos came in with a black bag containing what he described to the owner as "Bambi" :o

I prefer the abbreviated version, "noo-kee".

Very cool and an awesome looking Bird. I do however, shudder to think what the price might be!
