Title: New Jack Casady colours
Post by: Chris P. on December 08, 2020, 03:36:06 AM
I won't put it on the site of my magazine yet, cos I habve to wait four more hours (embargo) but I already found them online.

The JCS will be out soon in Sparkling Burgundy and Faded Pelham Blue:

https://www.peachguitars.com/epiphone-jack-casady-bass-sparkling-burgundy.htm

https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/epiphone-jack-casady-bass-faded-pelham-blue-pre-order

I have other pics in which the blue looks darker. More Pelham, less powder.

Sparkling Burgundy really fit the JCS well!

I like both - but I also give the edge to the Burgundy.  It looks great.

The Casady is a really good bass.

I had a gold Casady and sold it because it was so big. Now I have seller's remorse.......

Size matters, but not thaaat way.

The Pelham Blue in the Instagram post looks authentic, but it doesn't look faded to me. Guess we'll have to see more examples.

When I think of faded pelham, I think more green. And the burgundy looks pretty red to me. But hey, new colors - YAY!  ;) I played a white one at GC a couple of years ago that looked great.
Title: Re: New Jack Casady colours
Post by: 4stringer77 on December 09, 2020, 09:07:12 AM
Historically, Sparkling Burgundy was the same as Candy Apple. I think they started out more red but could end up orange and rust from the clear coat. In the case of the faded pelham blue, I think they're saying the blue is faded as in lighter or washed out rather than a relic yellowed treatment. The black is still the sharpest. Kind of ying and yangish like Jimmy Page's Dano.
The Epi intros are nice but when is that announcement coming from Gibson that Scott was talking about? How long are they going to keep us hanging?

I think it's hard to take pictures of. There are some real, non photo studio pics and the blue looks a bit green-ísh as some other Epi's in this colour.

I love the fact it has a blue top only and not all blue. I think that's a bit too much on such large basses.

Of course it's a matter of taste, but I think the silverburst one is totally silvernurst, the white one totally white and toe metallic blue one (Royal Blue?) totally blue with mother of pearl bindings. But I like the understated look of a coloured top only.

I used to joke about my (Kentuckian) wife liking "all kinds of music... country AND western..."

She recently corrected me... she doesn't much like western music... not that keen on bluegrass ether... :o

I'd say the DD's are more Emmylou than Country... to each their own...

I'm a bit confused: why do I get an official Epiphone news letter about the new colours with as titel 'The World's Most Popular Semi-Hollow Electric Bass'? It's hollow. Or does the little woodwork inside and under the bridge make it a semi?

A Pelham one will arrive here in January! Present from a friend:)
Title: Re: New Jack Casady colours
Post by: uwe on December 16, 2020, 04:51:46 AM
It has a "sustain block", but not as large a chunk as an EB-2, EB-650 or EB-750, where nearly all acoustic characteristics are killed by that feature. That smaller, sustain block (shaped a bit like a staircase IIRC) is in less contact with the top of the bass, hence the more acoustic note. An unplugged LP Sig or JC Sig sounds louder and more open than the aforementioned basses, but still "tighter" than, say, a Gretsch hollow-body.

.

The LP Sig has a “T” shaped sustain block that doesn’t go all the way to the strap button like an EB-2. A few years ago, I was able to run my endoscope from one side to the other through the gap between the block & the guitar.

The top and the back both have a piece of reinforcement with length grooves in them. And a small solid block (from back to top) to support the bridge.
But there is definitely a gap between the top and back for the largest part of the body.

As posted above I was given a pelham Blue JCS by a US friend. She ordered in pre Brexit UK in December and it would take days... ..until the shop said they were all sold out.

So the bass would arrive in January, which meant pro Brexit, so taxes for me. Weeks went on, it's April now and it seems the bass is not available before the end of October.

I e-mailed Gibson Europe and they had their showroom model left! And I could get it for an artist price (being a music journalist and having an account at Gibson's). I discussed it with the friend. She paid me, I paid Gibson and the bass will be here this week!

The Casady always looks a bit wider across the bottom than other basses, but it stands on its own.  Very nice basses.

As said, a Goldtop JCS was my second serious bass, after a Fender USA Jazz Bass. I started with a Squier P. I played it a lot and after a while I moved on, sold it, but I regretted it. So happy to have one back.

I didn't like the white and black, the cherry wasn't really my taste and the Royal Blue one is all blue with MOP bindings and just not as good, classy and vintage looking as the new ones. When the metallic red and Faded Pelham Blue Came out, I knew I needed it! I posted the blue one and a friend decided to buy it for me!

That 'Legend' devil make-up/prosthetics combo he wore is for me by far the best depiction of the classic Beelzebub/Satan look in full hellish regalia ever presented in a movie.

Charles Dance in Childhood's End is a close second, a less vibrant, more philosophical-thoughtful devil.

The thing with Gretsch is, they always overdo things, truly barockque. The Epi strikes more of a balance.

Post by: Chris P. on May 19, 2021, 01:01:32 AM
I like the original gold and sunburst.

White: Too white and yes, leave that to Gretsch. OR Hagstrom.
Black: I dislike black basses in general (*) cos they look too metal and with the JCS it just doesn't work. You don't see the curves. It looks cheap.
Royal Blue: All blue, back and sides too, and mother of toilet seat bindings. Not very pretty. And the black pickup looks cheap.
Red: I love red ES335's, I love the Guild Starfire in red, but I saw this one and I just didn't like it.

Faded Pelham Blue and the new red, both with dark wooden sides: perfect!

(*) I do like some black basses like a bound Rickenbacker. And in case of a Fender, maybe with tort plate and maple board.

Title: Re: New Jack Casady colours

Black tends to be a shape and surface depth killer - it equalizes everything. A light binding counteracts that effect somewhat.
