Thanx... I assume you mean the blonde 500/3. I have learned that they are not officially Senators, although they are almost identical.

The 500/3's were Selmer import models (hope I'm not mistaken). They were never sold to the US, according to Nick Wass, co-author of The Complete Violin Bass Story. The 500/3 was replaced by the Senator bass in 1964.

The '64 Senator was relisted, now with a $1,000 starting bid (no reserve) and $1,300 BIN price...

The P and J pickups look so out of place there.

Ooooh! great looking Rics. The black guard and TRC on the Jetglo S are a really nice touch.

Another point of reference to the Senator's price... I have won this blonde 1960 Höfner 500/3 today, including original case, for $848:

My max bid was $1,250. Glad it ended at much less. Now the wait...

The bridge base looks too thin, so I won't be surprised if the bass will need a neck reset to correct the angle. And a teacup knob.

I much preferred the Dressing Room at offsetguitars.com - though it can only do Jags & Jazzmasters now, at one point you could do the Bass VI too and I came up with this:
Toyed with it a little and came up with this...

I would much rather Gibson offer a "design your own bass" and really mean it.
I was thinking the same thing about Rickenbacker  ;)

And now he has lowered the BIN to $1,500. The guy is undecided.

That's one time when an early bid as a placeholder isn't a bad idea.  If someone had bid, he would have been unable to change the auction terms.
He could still pull the item and then re-list it.

BlueBoy is definitely on my wish list. Kinda like Fender's Sonic Blue from the 50's. But not for anywhere near $2,895.

His new $1,650 BIN is unrealistic, I think. I bought mine (same vintage, 1964) off eBay on July 2012 for $500. It needed a neck reset and a pickup rewind, but was still significantly cheaper.

Azureglo started when someone at RIC (JH?) saw a blue VW microbus parked across the street from the factory and liked the color.

So it started with the exact hue that VW used, but then it changed. On some years it's dark, on others it's more bright. Just like Midnight Blue, which started as a metallic version of Azureglo, but changed over the years, from dark blue to almost-purple, and then back to blue.

The 1970 pic shows the nicest hue of Azureglo, IMHO.

Too bad about the tuners, otherwise looks great. Correct knobs are easy to find on eBay, the teacups look out of place.

The tilted bridge is because of the black nylon strings. With a set of TI Jazz Flats the bridge angle will be different.

They are great couch basses. No need to amplify, with a set of flats (preferably TI's, don't even think about rounds) they sound SOOOO good acoustically. Much better than the small-body "Beatle" basses, and the f-holes help too. They are feather weight, and very comfortable. If I didn't already own one...

And how hard is it really? Now that they have finally got the body shape right, and the full-width inlays, and they already make vintage-style Plexi TRC's, toaster and horseshoe pickups, all that's needed is a small effort to add checkerboard binding... and a run of correct-hue Azureglo.
