Golden Oldies
« on: September 04, 2009, 10:53:29 PM »
I know I started a thread like this awhile back but can't find it so we'll start anew.

Lotsa good ol' songs keep goin' thru my head altho I almost never tune in any radio stations that specialize in this era & the cds in my collection are late 60s forward & most of 'em are 70s & 80s Hard Rock an' METAL, some Blues.
I'm talkin' about 50s & 60s Pop Rock like:
I'm A Girl Watcher
Solitary Man~ Neil Diamond
You're Just Too Good To Be True
Peggy Sue
Live For Today

Guess they remind me of my youth. Funny how you can't shake this stuff even if you try.
I reckon a lot of you oldtimers are in the same boat.
What Golden Oldies still float your boat?
See if you can name the artists who sang mine & if you don't know the artists who sang yours then we can all try an' guess.

Hard for me to know where to start, even when I don't have music playing there's a soundtrack running through my mind.

Live For Today, IIRC that was the Grass Roots, with their matching EKO violin guitar and bass.

Solitary Man, geez, when that was out, my former SIL played it to death. She was a teen ager at the time. That one and Sandy Posey's Born A Woman.

You're Just Too Good To Be True = Frankie Valli's Can't Take My Eyes Off You?

I've been digging Bernard Reed's bass lines on Chicago's Brunswick Records. We cover these in one of my bands:

Turn Back the Hands of Time - Tyrone Davis
Soulful Strut - Young-Holt Unlimited
Who's Makin' Love - Duck Dunn w/ Johney Taylor
RD Artist w/ Victory headstock (sold)
2009 Epiphone Thunderbird IV silverburst (mods pending)
2005 Lakland Decade Dark Star | 2009 55-02 Chi-Sonic
2005 Dark Star P-Bass | 1986 Pedulla Buzz |
Eden heads with various 12's and 10's | Ampeg B-15N

The Walker Brothers - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore
The Easy Beat's - Friday On My Mind

Yeah, from that clip you sure wouldn't know they were from Chicago.
