Hey! what's that last one? A shortscale goldtop LP?
EDIT: Ops, it's just the same from another view...sorry
-
That Pelham blue is a beauty!
-
I'm liking that 'Burst LP a lot!
-
sorry mark, the burst one winked at me!!
-
they all look quite nice and I couldn't help noticing they were giving me a 'come hither' look!
which are you ordering, Uwe?
-
I still like the goldtop.................
-
I just tucked Rob safely away for bed after we jammed a little - excellent bass player too! I've already got the shortscale TB (currently with Mark), ordered the Goldtop with Scott of Thunder and will get the Junior one once its available. Looks great in real life, nothing cheap about it. And the oversize LPs do really look like basses, not guitars.
At the Gibson booth I also found out why the old LP Standards were deleted: Warwick refused to sell its bridge to Gibson anymore! Those evil Krauts.

LOL!!

;D "As we all know" 3 points RULE!

Same here.
OTOH the doublecut shows they're willing to try something a little different.
-
Would really like to see it in natural mahogany. Still not sure why they did not use the original design?
These pictures really show the difference now. As Maxwell Smart once said "Missed it by this much".

It is a miss. They have this classic original design which they still use for guitars and instead they opt for something that looks more like a PRS without the arched top. What's next, bird inlays on the fretboard?
-
Any info on the $$$ for the basses?
-
Funny.....looks like the Hamer NAMM booth with B4S and Monaco basses before Fender took them over :)
-
I was at the Messe for two days. And I met Uwe, which was fantastic.
Uwe made me feel very welcome. Showed me Ze Kollekshun of course.
He let me play every bass while he was at work (or was he just posting here?) ;D
He even lent me his bike to get to the Messe. No, it wasn't a Dutch bike. ;)
We had the most delicious diner (hmmm lambchops!)
And then we went to Uwe's appartment to meet Edith and the the other half of his Kollekshun (the Non Gibson part)
We jammed a little bit. I found at that Uwe is a much better bass player than I am.
Thank you for your hospitality and your generosity Uwe.
BIG HUG!
:toast:
At the Messe I got overwhelmed by all the bas guitars, amps, effects, noise(!) and of course the gratuitous slapping.
I do like the looks of the new oversized Les Pauls and the Double cut. The double cut has a beautiful blue grey finish. I guess that's what Pelham blue looked like.
Too bad there was no chance of playing them as they were locked in their hangers... The only two bass guitars you could actually play were the SG RI and the Epi JCS.
-
Rob could play circles around me. Why is every bass payer I meet so much faster than I am I cry? Great percussive attack too.
As he doesn't finish plates (even salads), we will have bad weather all summer long.
And his German is excellent. Plus I now have a book on the Operation Market Garden debacle and Dutch girls in a tin box!!!
I met someone at the Gibson stand, Kevin, who was a nice guy and actually talked to me! No, he wasn't a specialist on basses, but he at least took an interest.

You know thrifty Holländer aren't used to those huge portions they serve in Frankfurt. :-[

(another missed opportunity... War reparations, dear boy... ;D)
-
I'm happy that you two were able to meet.
-
Yeah we figured it was about time. We met each other in cyberspace (Dudepit II) somewhere in 2003.
I made some pics too in Frankfurt:

Those Les Paul Basses are gorgeous!
-
how much larger are the bodies on the new basses compared to the guitars?
-
Daniel J posted a photoshopped combination of the normal body shape and the oversized one in another thread:

As you can see the difference is pretty substantial.
-
They've given it a Ripper-like butt!
-
i like big butts and i cannot lie
-
I like the bridge further from the butt end. Looks right.

It's just too bad they went and made them so big. :-\ 8) :P
-

I wish my butt was bigger.......... :-\
Damm LP pics! I'm really thinking about getting one since my major complaint was the bmall body - The big butt ones are calling ;)

Gee, that's a surprise.

I believe that is called the "taint."

Aha, so that Gloria Jones / Soft Cell hit could've been named Perineal Love... ;D
Uwe's comment: Hah, Rob, you beat me to it, dirty minds obviously think alike!
-
I'll never hear that song quite the same way again then:

"I gave you all a boy could give you." They really tore into it then.

But(t) of course.
Alles Ordentlich, oder?
-
I may really consider getting one somewhere in the future. Although my current DC totally covers all my needs in this field. The main question now is their actual weight...

The Waterstone TP bass has that same size and shaped (or even possibly larger) body and it's a bear to maneuver on tight stages, actaully worse to deal with than the headstock! I guess I'm in the minority who liked the smaller bodies with three points and I hate Warwick tailpieces regardless of whatever bass they're inflicted upon, though most Warwicks do deserve that curse.
-
It's telling Gibson doesn't have the resources or desire to invest the relatively small sum in R&D needed to produce their own proprietary bridge/tailpiece.
That 'new' one looks like it's from Wilkerson, I wouldn't be surprised.
