Title: A marriage in our midst: Congratulations, Mark!
Post by: Aussie Mark on October 16, 2009, 01:31:54 AM
I don't own a hot rod, but I'm getting married tomorrow and the wedding car is a '57 Chev Belair :-)

Edit by George: I thought this deserved its own thread. I hope everything goes well, Mark. Congrats to you and your family!

Shouldn't the bedcloth linen be hanging out of the window by now?

I can just envisage it, Mark, ever the gentleman, pulling out his knife in Crocodile Dundee style ("THIS is a knife.") and doing the necessary ... Painful for a finger player too.

In Greece we think that only a cock's blood is the best substitute for maiden's first blood. Ofcourse I mean the bird, not the other thingy.

So in Greece cocks have wedding night angst. It's like Thansgiving to a turkey for them.

That must be a long honeymoon of the newly-wed spouses Deayton. Either that or the first night was all a bit much for poor Mark. Age can be a mercyless affair. Tsk, tsk, tsk ...

Not very popular in Rodos... mind you, neither are the Germans, or the Italians...  :o I spent a lot of time there in the early 80's... depending on the mood of the customs man in Rhodes Town, if they spotted a Turkish stamp in your passport they would occasionally not allow you in, and off you went, back to Turkey...

They like the Brits there, though...  ;D

I guess some people are too "patriotic" about that situation. Most turks I have met are friendly people, never had any problem with them.

I have it from a trustworthy source  :-X that Herr Deayton signed - had to sign - a prenuptial agreement disallowing him to make further appearances here.  :-\ :-\ :-\

Thanks guys for your well wishes!

When the wedding car picked me up before we went to get my bride from her sister's house the driver had Led Zeppelin I blaring loud from the stereo.  I was impressed.

We've just returned from a week in a beachfront villa on Koh Samui in Thailand

Married life seems no different from our past 5 years together, other than me needing to get used to playing bass with a ring on my left hand, and the sick looking credit card statement.

Mark, I admire your dedication to the whole ring thing. I gave up after a 4 week trial before we got married. I still have no rings on any of my fingers. Luckily I have a very bass friendly wife.

I have a bass friendly wife too, but I'm keen to try and get used to the wedding ring.  I haven't even worn a watch since mobile phones were invented, so playing with a ring on my finger is a little disconcerting.

Some notice it, some don't. I never notice it while playing but others are bothered by a ring.

Takes a couple of weeks and then it feels weird if you don't wear one. The human psyche is remarkable in that it even adjusts to the severest forms of captivity.  ;) Of course, the extra weight enhances sustain too and the ring can - with a little practice - be used for tasteful slide playing. There lurks a Johnny Winter in all of us.

I've never been keen on having metallic objects hanging off of me. 4 weeks was enough of an annoyance to convince me that it just wasn't going to work.   Even if I didnt play an instrument I really dont like watches , rings , necklaces at all.

After many years it grows into your finger like barbwire in the bark of an old tree, at that point it can't ding your bass! I'm lucky to have a wife that has put up with my GAS for 32 years! ;) ;)
Title: Re: A marriage in our midst: Congratulations, Mark!

I've never had the finance for true GAS; I'm genetically disposed that way though... "my precious" has leveled with the skin, but is removable... feels truly wierd when it's not there...

Nice photos! But I got worried for a moment. Your wife looks a lot like our youngest daughter, who's 21. I wouldn't wanna bring no bassplayer into her life, as I'm sure all of you understand? Domp-domp-domp-domp, du-du-du-domp! Dooo-oomp! Only thing worse would be a sousafon player!
I wish you both a happy life!
