Bass Amps & Effects / Traynor Amps
« on: July 10, 2010, 05:28:09 AM »
I recently bought myself one of the first big amps that I owned back in the late 60's and used through the 70's and 80's. It's a 1973 Traynor YBA-3 Custom Special with a Traynor YC-810 Cabinet that's has been stored away for a number of years and is in original condition. Still has its 4 stock Phillips 6CA7 power tubes in it along with the 3 Phillips 12AX7A preamp tubes. The only change to the amp has been the replacement of the power cord from a 2 prong to a 3 prong grounded cord. The amp still sounds fantastic!

Here's photo of it.

Did you own a Traynor amp in your youth? If so what model was it, and what did you think of it? Do you have a photo of it you can post here?

I wonder how long they have to remain bent like that in order to pass the test.

are they Dimarzio Jazz pups on that?

Not 100% sure but I believe they were DiMarizio's. Here's another pic of one, an extremely rare left handed version.

This was the last model produced by Hagstrom before closing their doors in 1983. It's also one of only two models they produced that were long scale basses. The other was the Scanbass also known as the Jazzbass.

Doesn't look like a Les Paul to me Chris...

More like the dreaded J...

This is a 1980-81 Super Swede Hag Bass. Not many of them were made, only 356.

It appears there were two versions of the 500/4. Version 1 had a 3 knob config (2 vol & 1 tone) script Hofner headstock logo (as pictured below from my 1969 Hofner catalog). Version 2 had a 4 knob config (2 vol & 2 tone) with block Hofner headstock logo.

These were introduced in 1969 and discontinued in 1988. Don't think they made very many of them during that time.

I have a pair of Schaller RIC strap posts available. They're in new condition. Contact me if interested.

The threads on them fit perfectly on your RIC.

Every time I've tried one of those in a store they've felt great. I need to get one one of these days.

They're well made instruments with a very fast and comfortable neck. I can't rave about the EMG HZ electronics, but for the money they're very hard to beat.

Here's another photo of mine.

I picked this Schecter Elite-5 up off Ebay a few weeks ago. Serial number shows it as being made last year (08). It arrived safe, and was in very good condition. But it did need a fresh set of strings and a good cleaning  Once that was done it was like new as you can see in the photo below. The seller had no feedback rating, but was very good to deal with, which was why I went ahead with the purchase.

I wanted to buy one of these because its a 35" scale neck through 24 fret bass which is nice to have at my disposal when needed.

The bass with a hard shell case shipped to me was $400.00

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Genz-Benz Test Drives?
« on: November 19, 2009, 11:10:56 AM »
The 12.0 has the two separate preamps, the 6.0 does not - but I am especially impressed by the effect of the 6.0's tube pre-amp; turning it up adds a lot of warmth to the signal, and a slight tube OD is easily obtained.

Not only does the SM12 have two separate preamp channels, it also has two separate 600 watt power amps in it. All weighing a grand total of 6 3/4 lbs.

I use a Genz ShuttleMAX 12.0 to drive my two (4 ohms each) Genz GB410T-XB3 cabs. I've been using G-B gear for the past four years and have been extremely happy with it. Love the versatility of having two separate preamp channels that can be combined and now with the ShuttleMAX 12.0 having 2 separate 600 watt Class D power amps that weighs only 6.75 lbs. A far cry from my GBE 1200 which was weighing in at 60 lbs in its rack. And at 57, the lighter the better!

Is this the new Longhorn "58" re-issue that Danelectro have been advertising for the past 6 months? I see them listed for $359.00 on the Danelectro site.

This is a 500/5, also known as a Senator Bass. Stu Sutcliffe used one during his time with The Beatles. Stu's bass was a 58-59. You can tell because it had Hofner's Type 1 pickups in it. The 500/5 above has Hofner's Type 2 pickups in it, which would have it being made between 60-61.

In March, Hofner introduced their re-issue 500/1v58 at the Musikmesse show in Germany. It has their new Type 1 re-issue pickups in it along with the oval control panel and is a very nice bass. And yes both pickups on the 500/1v58 are positioned as shown in the photo above (of the 500/5).
