Sunshine of Your Love, definitely. Also:
Deep Purple's Into The Fire. Glover played it on a Mustang.
Yes - Heart of the Sunrise.
Beach Boys (Carol Kaye) - Good Vibrations.
-
One of my faves is Moby Dick. More associated with Bonham than JPJ for obvious reasons but what a great bass riff.

I could be wrong. It's been known to happen. HOWEVER...I did find this on http://www.bassland.net/jamerson.html:
1) The songwriting-production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland attested to the fact that James Jamerson played on almost every one of their productions, and they never allowed others to produce songs that they had written. Brian Holland signed a notarized affidavit categorically stating that "Bernadette", "Reach Out", "Can't Help Myself", "Keep Me Hanging On", "Standing in the Shadows of Love", "Reflections", "Baby Love", "Back In My Arms Again", "Come See About Me", and "Can't Hurry Love", (all tunes claimed by Carol) were in fact, played by James Jamerson. Most damning was his statement that he had never even heard of Carol Kaye.
I think Carol also thought she played it. :)
Current stuff? As soon as YouTube is back online, I'll find something.
-
And the riff from Hey Joe.
-
slinkp, I'm with you on your choices :)
I've got no clips but I would add Tighten Up by Archie Bell and the Drells, What is Hip by Tower of Power and Unsquare Dance by Dave Brubeck.

I loved the 80's!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92d7TvSjHGw
Got to see them here in Austin back in 1984. Now I know what all the screaming girls at The Beatles shows sounded like! They were a very good band. I remember going to Sound Warehouse to buy their first LP because I'd heard it at a party at UT. This was in April of '82 and they only had 2 copies of their new album Rio filed in the "D" section. So I bought it and was blown away by this song, which is the first track on that LP.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwu6wYtH9fI
This was the song from their first LP that got me hooked.

duck on soul man, (the belushi version sounds better to me,)
silly little love songs, paul
Rutherford on "no reply at all" by Genesis, 3 cool fin lines to play.
-
I really didn't appreciate John Taylor's work so much at the time but he is definately one of my fave bassists...........He and Roger Taylor are great together on "Duran Duran" and "Rio" as pop goes it's enduring music, "Save a Prayer" has a beautiful bass line, amongst many others.
-
Can't forget Slade ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLsw668PVyY
-
I'm missing my own favorites from our sets!
Green Onions - great bass line.....Nice footage of a very young Duck Dunn...the bass makes this number!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-7QSMyz5rg
Time is Tight...another fantastic bass line! Without it, the whole number is NOTHING.

Muse...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dm_5qWWDV8
It's amusing when people make comments about how simple Chris Wolstenholme's bass lines are. My response would be, come up with something as good or better, get into a band on Muse's level, then let's hear it.
-
Simple is beautiful

Love JPJ's tone on this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WE8ZoHUBZI8
Of course Pino's playing on the original album was perfection but Tim Schmit does a real good job here;

I really like "Uprising" by Muse - great song!
Their new songs aren't getting as much attention, or at least that's the way it seems to me. To me the new stuff is the best they've had since the "Absolution" album.

Thorazine Shuffle by Govt Mule.

"Knife Edge" is probably my favorite ELP song. Simple, yet gets the statement across.

I remember playing along with that Thomas Dolby track. From "The Flat Earth" LP.
-
I like:
- just about anything Geezer played with Sabbath
- Dennis Dunaway, especially on "Gutter Cat vs. the Jets", but plenty of others also
- Jamerson (Bernadette has always been my fave)
- Flea on "Higher Ground"
- "Superstition" (all versions are cool but BBA stands out for me)
- Larry Graham on "If You Want Me to Stay" & "Let Me Entertain You"
- Ronnie Wood w/JBG on "Around the Plynth" & "All Shook Up"
Probably a million others but I'm gonna quit for now.
-
How could I have forgotten this...!

I had forgotten how in-freakin'-credible that performance was. One of the real highlights of a marvelous documentary.

Ah Santana ;D. Before their first album hit the stores I caught them ay the Eastown Ballroom in Detroit. Spooky Tooth opened and lit the place up. Edgar Winter came on next and really lit the place up, then Johny Winter came on and joined in and REALLY lit the place up. Then the unknown Santana band came on and absolutely BLEW THE HOUSE DOWN. No one knew anything about Santana , in fact most of the people there , including myself, thought Santana was the keyboard player. It was impossible to pick out the star in that show, everyone was a standout. I believe the ticket price was something like $2.50 or $3.00 for one of the greates shows that ever happened.
About a month later when the album hit the stores I found out Santana was the guitar player. I wore out two 8 track tapes of that first album ;D
