The Bass Zone / Re: Most influential basses

If I'm right only Danelectro used rounds. Entwistle went to Rotosound to make the roundwounds for normal basses.

The early '60s Danelectro I had did come with roundwound strings which surprised me a bit because every other bass out there seemed to come with flats.  I actually thought they were a bit strange and didn't like them at the time.

Fender Basses / Re: Squier Sonic Precision Bass Demo
« on: February 23, 2024, 12:09:07 AM »
I've owned three Squier CV basses, two original MIC, and one FSR MII.  I still have two of them.  I have always believed the basses were the true all stars of that series.  I've had three G&L basses as well and still have two of those and enjoy the difference between them that Leo's innovations in them created.

But when it comes right down to playing gigs no one is ever gonna shun anyone for showing up with a PBass or JBass no matter what name is on the headstock.  At least for awhile IMHO the Squier CVs exceeded the quality of the MIM Fenders and probably caused Fender to up their game there.

One other thing I appreciate about them is how easily they can be modified or upgraded to taste if someone like me who enjoys that kind of thing wants to tackle.  Some of them like my Matt Freeman model have appreciated significantly over time.  It's actually the best PBass I've ever owned.

So congrats on the bass and thanks for the demo.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Let's see your rig!

I think many of us have entered into a phase of reducing the weight of our gear and fortunately for us the music industry has been delivering what we need.  I've actually gone through a couple phases of this the last was going from a bi-amped 2x15/2x10 rig to a 4x10.  Then to that Epifani 212 and another Epifani 112.  The 112 got sold a couple months ago and as soon as the 212 sells a Genzler BA 112 will replace it giving me three options of 110, 112, or both and the heaviest will still weigh less than 30lbs.

So I've gone from an over 80lb 4x10 to a 50lb 212 to the MG350 Combo at 25lbs and when I add that BA 112 both will weigh about the same as the Epifani 212 but much smaller and able to be carried individually or one in each hand whenever I'm feeling particularly "brutish".  LOL  It actually pains me to sell that 212 because it sounds so good but it's just too bulky for me to carry by myself now.  These new Bass Array cabs are a real Godsend for us older guys who still want to gig awhile longer.

Nice, and welcome!
How do you like the Genzler gear compared to Genz-Benz, did you ever play those?

I have stopped even thinking about buying new amps since I completed my current rig around 2008:
Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 head with one or both of EA CXL110 and EA CXL112.  If the Shuttle ever dies I would love to try a Genzler.

But, as I get older (currently 53 and not in the best shape I've been)... I start wondering if I should replace the 45-pound 112 with one of the modern ultralight cabs. The low end flatness of that cab is just amazing though.

Although it always interested me I've never owned any Genz-Benz gear.  So this is my first experience with Jeff Genzler's amps and cabs but Pilgrim is a friend and a neighbor if you will as we both live in Ft. Collins, CO and he's always been very complimentary of his Shuttle head.  The MG350 is perfect for me and I love it's EQ set up with the contour control and the sweep-able mids.

It may actually be the easiest bass amp to EQ I've ever used. I can use the contour control to give me the basic EQ curve I want then just use Bass, Treble, and Mids to fine tune for whatever bass I'm playing.  It should also be that easy to EQ for room acoustics but I haven't gigged with it yet.  No lack of power either.  It puts out more than enough volume for my needs.

Although my Epifani 212 weighs just over 50lbs I live in a second floor unit with no elevator so it would be a bear to haul up and down 22 steps leading to the second floor.  It's an incredible cab and sounds great with the BA-110 but I want to cut down on size and weight so the Genzler BA cabs are where I'm headed.  I would call them very transparent and uncolored.

That little BA 110 has an amazing range and a full yet tight low end.  Once I can add a BA 112 to it I'll be able to use the full 350w output of the head when needed or I can go with a solo cab @ 175w.  All of my other more powerful heads and other cabs are gone except that UL2 212 and it's for sale along with a brand the new never used MG350 head I got with the combo.  I already had one I'd bought previously.

Other Bass Brands / Re: New G&L shortscale

Haven't played a Fallout yet due to no need for a short scale bass but the Tribute version is quite popular and I am a fan of G&L basses so who knows what tomorrow may bring.

The Outpost Cafe / Re: The Beatles on Jack Paar

Those were the days.  I can remember being in Jr HS and rehearsing for a music show featuring choruses from all four schools in our district.  We were on the bus singing Beatles songs on our way back to our own school and our director was leading us in them.  She was a pretty cool lady.  LOL

How many of us owe our own beginnings as rock musicians to the Beatles?

Many from our past are dying now making us all realize how much closer we are to our own end than to our beginnings.  Time to update our bucket lists.  RIP Melanie.

Legendary amps.  Wish I'd have bought one years ago when I had the chance to do it.

Welcome, @soulman. Nice to see that you made it here.

Yup, and thanks for guiding my way sir.  I'm still just wandering around getting the lay of land and hoping to get to know more of the players.  Some great looking rigs shown here as well.

New to me and more recently harder than hell to get is a Genzler Magellan 350 Series 2 Combo.  It's sitting on top of my Epifani UL2 212 cab which I'm selling to replace with a Genzler BA2-112-3 Cab.
