Uwe has been missing from the forum because his father has been hospitalized and in intensive care due to an intestinal blockage. Three emergency surgeries and now fever, but his innards are apparently working again. Uwe has been spending time with him.
We wish his dad a speedy recovery.

Uwe reports that he was able to be driven to Cologne to see Whitesnake in concert.
"... you have no idea how nice people are to you at a hard rock concert when you have crutches und a large knee band aid! Must make a habit of it ..."
-
That's good news. In a few months, he should be able to ride a motorcycle to one of those concerts. ;D

Sorry for your loss, Uwe. It's an unusual feeling when one understands that one's standing one step closer to eternity. But, in a way, there's some kind of peace in that feeling...

Uwe, you must be a sado-masochist. Watching/listening David Coverdale struggle through his repertoire is no sinecure. Especially if you're huge Deep Purple fan, it must hurt an awful lot to hear those songs being butchered by someone who hasn't been able to sing those songs properly for at least the past 10 years.
I can imagine you want to see the original Deep Purple band member perform live, for good old times sake. Or just to be able to tick that box on the bucket list. But to go back year after year and only see/hear it getting worse, just puzzles me.

Instead of trying to scream his way through one his old hits, he could also decide to do it a little different:

And it's more fun too!

Uwe did send along this clip from the July 7 concert. I thought I heard a frog croaking, turns out it was Coverdale.

Another from the same show that popped up in my YT window. now I'll be getting Whitesnake suggestions for the next few weeks. :o

Nice to see and hear Don Airey showing off his chops like that. Him and Ian Paice really caught me in that number.

1. I live.
2. My (new) knee (prosthesis) is doing fine.
3. I still play bass (have a gig on Sat, in a Stones tribute, would you believe?!).
4. I still follow what is going on in the US (to my general despair!).
5. I'm partly back at work - too much sitting is not good for me and you know what attorneys do most of the time ... -, but my days are crammed with physio therapy sessions, I really want to make this new knee work, it cost enough!
6. You'll hear more from me, I've decided to be an annoying little cripple!
Uwe

And old songs can still win gold medals ...

The 6 Million Euro Man...?

Having observed the process myself, I'd say the physical therapy for this is more useful than people may realize. Despite the drudgery and monotony, it's worth it.

Welcome back!

Welcome back.
We all feel for you and your wounded knee

I just love that song and the band - even before I became "personally afflicted". Danke schön!
-
I'm sure Uwe would like to exercise his knees differently...

I'm outing myself (yet again): I like Zac Brown. And I especially like how he draws in all those non-traditional influences.
-
Suddenly I'm reminded of the episode on To The Manor Born where Audrey calls her German skiing instructor "Benz" because he's always telling her to "benz ze knees." ;D
