The Bass Zone / Mr. Big What if...
« on: January 06, 2011, 01:50:05 PM »
Never would have guessed they'd get back together to make another album.
But they did.

There's probably a lot of Sheehan haters here, but I like what he does with Mr. Big.

The Outpost Cafe / Phil Lynott - 25 years ago
« on: January 05, 2011, 03:59:39 PM »
It's 25 years ago today.

I remember arriving at the rehearsal room of my first band. Our lead singer had just heard on the radio that Phil Lynott had died.
We were quite devastated.

And after 25 years, I'm still a huge fan.

RIP Philip

Other Bass Brands / BaCH update
« on: December 10, 2010, 02:43:45 PM »
Here's a few updates on BaCH for y'all:

They are planning to use CTS pots on all their (bass)guitars. I think this woud be a big improvement on the electronic circuitry of their instruments.

They are developing a new bridge for the Semi-Acoustic bass. I've seen pics and sketches of the first prototype and it looks promising.
The bridge is really the last hurdle to take for their long scale EB2 copy (and shortscale too)

They are working on a new "custom color" palette to choose from. Think silver flake finishes etc for real cool pimped basses  8)

The first run of the Fenderbirds is sold out. The new series wil (hopefully) be made to my exact specs. Fingers crossed.

Other Bass Brands / triple coil humbucker

Anyone ever heard of the Italian name Frudua or Tuscany or Exclusive Guitars? (all from the same Mr. Frudua)

They came up with a new kind of pickup, which I think is interesting.

Wonder how it sounds

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Barebones BaCHbird
« on: October 29, 2010, 02:39:19 AM »
Remember the start of the Non Reverse Thunderbird by BaCH project?

Some of you guys wanted a barebones model rather than a complete bass.

BaCH agreed to make a few of these. But when push came to shove they never did.

Until now...

Bass Amps & Effects / Blown Eden D210XLT
« on: October 15, 2010, 06:52:03 AM »
Yesterday I lent one of my Eden D210XLT cabs to a collegue bass player.

Today he rings me up says it's blown. It gives the typical farting sound...

 >:(

So now I'm going to have to replace the speakers.
Any idea if the original Eden speakers can be ordered separately?
If I'm not mistaken it's this model: EC-1060XL

Or maybe and Eminence as a replacement?
I've seen good reviews about the Deltalite II 2510.
Good thing is they're much lighter, so that should be easier on my back.
Never heard them in real life though.
I gotta admit I'm still very happy with the Eden cabs I have, so I'm not too sure if I want change the character...

Any ideas?

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Need some help wiring my project
« on: September 28, 2010, 11:02:21 AM »
I'm almost done with the finishing of my self built bass.

Now that I have to wait before I can start the polishing/buffing I have time to figure out how I'm gong to wire the thing...

I have two single coil G3 (or S1) pickups. One of them is reverse polarity. I bought them in the beginning of the BaCHbird project. With the idea to put them together as a humbucker. But the Artec turned out pretty good so I never used this pair.

Plus I have an Artec Mudbucker that I've been planning to use since I tested a Stagg EB0 type bass with the mudbucker at the bridge. I liked the effect of the mudbucker in that position.

I want to use a five six position rotary switch to choose the different combinations.
And one volume knob and one tone knob

But I have no idea how to tackle this :o
Can any of you guys help me out?

Here's a drawing I made with all the components I have :

Gibson Basses / Gibson Les Paul Lo-Z pickups by EMG?
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:21:36 PM »
I stumbled upon this blog:

http://uniqueguitar.blogspot.com/2009/10/les-paul-recording-guitar.html

where someone cites from a book or magazine:

"In 1971 Gibson introduced the Gibson Les Paul recording guitar. The guitar was designed to be much like Paul's specially designed personal guitar which was equipped with low impedance pickups.

The Les Paul Recording came with two slanted low impedance pickups with Gibson logo molded on covers. The guitar was equipped with integral transformers to make the output impedance compatible with normal high impedance amps or low impedance. In other words, with the transformer off for recording in a studio plugged directly into the board, the low-impedance mode gave much cleaner tracks and broader frequency bandwidth, that could be tweaked in the mix.

For live performances, the Les Paul Low-Hi Impedance Tonal Circuitry was switched to high impedance, allowing the guitar to be played directly through standard guitar amplifiers. The pickups were produced for Gibson by a company that eventually was known as EMG.
"

That last sentence struck me as kinda suprising.
In all those years where I've -unsuccesfully- tried to trace the origins of the Gibson Lo-Z, someone just claims they were made by EMG??

Really?
