Title: Hot! Damn hot!
Post by: Freuds_Cat on January 09, 2010, 11:32:14 PM
Next big town down the road (Murray bridge) is currently 44.9C (112.8 F). A lovely cool 42C (107.5 F) here ATM.
Blargh! nothin' to do but sit around. Even the aircon is starting to struggle.

Whew!  Sounds like Texas in the Summer.  We had a record low here in Austin last night at 17 degrees F.  Supposed to get even lower early this A.M.

17 F here last night too at the weather station nearest my house. Not expected to be quite that cold tonight.

After last summer, the drought and the record number of days 100 degree or more, a little cold front is welcome.

Lows in the high 40s, low 50s while getting up to mid 70s during the day. I like living in Southern California this time of the year.

UK - Warming up here slightly, snow starting to melt - freezing at night still...

I don't remember it ever being that hot here...

Seen a rare satellite picture showing the whole of the UK covered in snow...

Looks like something from "The Day After Tomorrow", but it's this week...!!!

Sympathy from those of us at temp extremes is unlikely to be forthcoming..... ;)

It's been damn cold here in Minnesota for the last two weeks or longer....... Today, it is suppose to get up to about 20 F, later in the week 30 F. Minnesotans walk around without jackets or with their jackets wide open in this kind of weather. It's hard on a Gibson guitars & basses with nitro finishes. Many guitars in our shops are Minnesota mint! In great condition except for finish cracks from cold temps. Not letting the temperature of the guitar warm up slow enough before taking it out of the case. One local shop lets the guitar sit eight hours before opening it after it's delivered in this cold.  8) 8)

It's currently 10F (-12C) at 8:58AM here at the foot of the Rockies in Cedar Hills, UT. It's been a pretty cold winter so far but not as much snow as we had the last couple of years. I've noticed that it seems to snow more here when it's slightly warmer.

It's been very cold here south of Houston the last few days as well.  It's been in the low to mid 20s for the last three nights and it looks like we'll barely drop to freezing tonight as well.  After tonight we go back to our normal weather.

There is a bright side to the freezing weather as a hard winter tends to kill down some of the insects that drive us nuts most of the year - I think that it slows down the fire ants to a certain point as well.

We've been in the oughts and teens daytimes for a while, but it hit the 20's (F) yesterday and at 11 AM it's almost 30.  Supposed to hit the 40's today, which would be nice.

One of my son's friends wears shorts in any weather, even 25 below. I'm not sure whether to blame it on his being a drummer or being from Coon Rapids or both.

But it's not just Minnesotans. One of my neighbors, who moved here last year from Phoenix of all places, wears shorts with a sleeveless shirt outside regardless of the weather. He was out this morning in 35 degree weather working on his car.

Bad today  :-\

High winds, 42C and lightning strikes make for a bad day

Much of South Australia has been issued with a catastrophic warning for today and fire authorities are anticipating the state's worst fire conditions in five years.

South Australians living in fire districts issued with a catastrophic warning are being urged to consider leaving their homes.

Ten of the state's 15 fire districts will be under catastrophic conditions, another three extreme, while the remaining two districts have been issued a severe warning.

I'm just across the river in Champlin, it must be because he's a drummer... :rimshot:

Oddly enough, most of Eastern Canada has been getting warmer temps than Texas has for the last month! We're sitting at about -10 C (14 F) here in the Nation's capital but it's nice and sunny. I just keep telling myself there's only a couple of months of this crap weather to go .......

Looks funny seeing Alan Lancaster playing a Fender Shorty.

He (Alan Lancaster) played in a band here called the Party Boys with a rotating door of great musicians which ranged from a couple of my mates Like Rob Riley (Rose Tattoo) and Vince Contarino (Various incl Jesus Christ Superstar and a great band with Rob called The Mega Boys,John Lord with the Adelaide Symphony) and Swannee (which included John Swan, [Jimmy Barnes half brother and a better singer] and Mark Evans from ACDC). Joe Walsh was in that band for a while as was Angry Anderson (Rose tattoo), Shirley" Strachan from Skyhooks,  Graham Bonnett and  Eric Burdon.
