Howdy folks! Long time no see!.

I'm currently looking for an early 92-97 LP Standard bass in Cherry SB or Ebony, (no tobacco sb.)
I love these boat anchors.
Anyone looking to possibly sell or have a line on a nice one?
              Thanks!

Howdy again,
Got a little impatient with money burning a hole in my pocket and these aren't getting any cheaper. Ishibashi had this one.
A few dings here and there but the burst on this one just looks gorgeous vs a lot of clownbursts that are out there. Just look at it, lol
Now you watch, this happens every time. 50 of them will come up for sale for cheaper money. lol!
So happy to finally be in a position to get another one of these great sounding basses.

The Bass Zone / Best deal on Sadowsky Flats?
« on: November 28, 2010, 06:47:24 PM »
Hi guys, I have heard nothing but good things about these strings, and I really want to give them a go, I have currently been using Roto flats over the past few years and my skin chemistry does not seem to agree with the alloy, I dont know what it is, I wipe them down with alcohol, etc and they STINK after about 20 hours of play on them..

Anyone know where I can get a decent deal on the Sadowskys?

Fender Basses / Incoming Bullet Bass deluxe!
« on: November 24, 2010, 05:42:35 PM »

Bullet bass deluxe anyone else into these? One of the most under-rated Fender basses of all time, the "student model" step child replacement for the Mustang. But the "Deluxe" model is 34" Scale. I just won this one earlier today.

After owning over 100 basses over the last 12 years, gibsons, rick 4001-4003s, early 70s p-basses, Jazzes, customs, you name it These are the basses I come back to full circle.

Heres why.

Built in the original Fullerton Fender factory with left over old parts.

Where else can you get the following neck for this kind of money? this combo on a Fender bass is not too common.

Neck specs
Full scale -
"B" width,
1 piece maple
Your choice of either walnut OR maple skunk stripe, as they came with both, Maple skunk stripe I haven't seen on another fender bass.
small vintage frets.
Soft V profile.
Early P-Tele headstock with the little bit smaller Sting ray style tuners.

a GREAT neck!

Body, Slightly downsized slab P-bass body.

electronics consist of left over Mustang bass pickups under white covers.

Tone -Heres the best part, You have your classic fat woody p-bass here, but its a bit brighter, super punchy and has a very unique growl. I think of it as a Precision-jazz-single coil early p hybrid tone.. a bit more upper high mids in the mix then a split coil p-bass.

The Mustang pickups have 1 pole piece per string but are very very long.

I see a lot of these basses routed for regular split coil p-pups, I did this with my first bullet deluxe back in the early 90s with a dimarzio and was very disappointed these mustang pickups are really great.

So there ya have it, The overlooked bastard Fender bass, Nothing cheap about them quality or tone wise. Just the price of them used. USA 79-82' P-basses seem to currently start at $1000-$1100 and up with some occasions of a great deal out there but these basses are currently topping out at around $550..

If you have the means, I highly recommend you check one out.

Just cant decide on a new pickguard for this one, Vintage pearloid or parchment?

This Gentleman claims to of paid just over $1000,00 for this preamp-pickup combo for this GL jazz, he now decides they are not for him and wants $700.

for $1000,00 ya think the control plate disaster could of been avoided? ROFL!

For $1000 bucks Unicorn tears and rainbows better fly out of my amp.

Hey guys, this coming from a guy who would wear nothing else but Rotosound stainless rounds or the piano string designs, But I just cant afford to shell out $25 a month for new strings when flats last forever. :)

I got so sick of that Boingy springy sproingy tone that just make me nauseous now, idk to me that clean fresh out of the pack roundwound with super low action and a pick tone is just so overdone...

I have been running nothing but 45-105 roto flats on ALL my basses for the last 2-3 years now. I used to use the Steve harris 55-110 set but they are soo god damm stiff, I also used to be a big fan of very high tension strings too.. but now im even finding the 45-105's a little stiff, I like the sound of flats dugg in very hard with the right hand, and a string with a little bit lower tension would really give me that old school percussive rubberyness..

Anyways I have had these fresh roto flats on the lp std bass now for about 3 weeks now, about 1-2 hours of nightly play on them and they just wont give up the harshness yet,...
I find it weird that this set in particular just keeps hanging in there...ushally in about a week im good to go I notice the G settling down.

Im still constantly turning that tone knob down.....

Have any of you guys noticed how long your strings take to settle in?

I dont know if its because Im getting older or what, I hated flatwounds with a passion, they used to feel so lifeless, now its nothing but the tube gain up 3/4, neck pup full blast, tone a about a quarter up...
From there its all in your hands!, no fancy preamps, effects etc..  I can go from a slow 60s/70s ballad to a punch you in the face and knock your teeth out punk sound... :)

Having a great time right now, just me a few beers, and playing along with some good tunes...:)

The Outpost Cafe / Any Beer drinkers here?
« on: February 26, 2010, 10:30:06 PM »
Always been a Guinness Draught guy forever, seems like alot of the microbrews in the US are just putting out the
strongest IPAS, the hops are soo strong resiny its like eating a bag of weed. Idk, anyone into this stuff? do i just have an undeveloped palette?

whats your favorite brews?
Heres my recent top session brews,.

Sam Adams Noble Pils - Never that big of a fan of any sam adams beers. But being a fan of a good czech pilsner i gave this a shot, WOW!,
this stuff is great! nice and mellow, very brite.

Wychwood Hobgoblin from the UK, this beer gets some bad reviews but I love it,
very very balanced beer, nice amber with some malt.

Red seal ale - nice amber.

Victory Prima pils and storm king. both great.

Hey Guys, I have been messing around with riffworks a little bit today, just recording some stuff and playing it back to critique my playing..
Its been years before i recorded anything, and playing my tracks back to myself it sounded soo god awful terrible..

Then I thought to myself lets listen to some isolated tracks on youtube..

Its just the nature of the beast i guess many isolated bass tracks sound like crap until they are mixed.

heres an example. Isolated Van halen bass track,...

Gibson Basses / Inside the Epi Les paul std bass pickups.
« on: February 24, 2010, 07:16:38 PM »
Hi guys, Thanks again to Scott (God of thunder) for selling me his spare Schaller bassbucker pickup,

I thought you guys might want to take a look inside the epiphone bass pickups.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, I cant find my real camera.
I pulled the neck pup and installed the schaller, cool pickup! exactly what I was looking for big fat, thick with an attitude.

Anyways I was going to re-use the chrome cover from the epi pup so I popped the cover off, what a hunk of crap the epiphone pups are. wow
so cheaply made, and reaks of crayons too, lol

I was expecting to find a cheesy 6 pole guitar humbucker but was very surprised to find out its a blade pickup, like a really BAD copy of the Gibson TB plus pickups.
the funny part is how they are put together, its just 2 blades wrapped in wire dropped into the cover and filled with wax and set in there all crooked.

And the schaller, after messing with hundreds of pickups over the years, This thing is built unlike any other bass pickup I have seen, really great quality.

With cover off, looks like they are designed to be ran this way too..

Cover covers on the way.
If anyone has another spare please let me know! Allparts can get them, but special order..

Gibson Basses / Aufruf Herr Uwe - Epi les paul content..
« on: February 18, 2010, 09:55:34 AM »
Uwe, I saw an old post of yours about the epi "vinnie" lp bass,, you mention you have a prototype epi les paul bass?
Do you have any pictures you might be able to share?  Is it Korean or US built?  Sounds really cool!

"Never played one of those, but while a maple LP sounds somewhat like as a crime against nature conceptually, my maple prototype Epi LP sounds great. This Vinnie thing should be a snappy affair together with the EMGs."
