Lowend1 was making a joke aimed at me. About a dozen years ago at the now-extinct forum that spawned the Outpost, I made an innocent comment about Gwyneth Paltrow. Ever since then Uwe has accused me of having a thing for her. It's been a running gag. So much so that Uwe interrupted his vacation to comment in this thread. His first sentence was  for my benefit.  :)

Was it that long ago? Time flies when beating a joke to death, I guess.;D
In a crazy, mixed-up world, it's nice to have a frame of reference that always returns you to an even keel. Here we are fortunate to have several: WWII aircraft, trains, squirrels, Ritchie Blackmore, Gwyneth Paltrow and ass-play. Not in that order, obviously.

Uwe joined the Pit in 2003, and it wasn't long after that.

There are some exceptions, but I usually don't find the idea of naming people after cities or states very appealing.  Sometimes people have to go to the legal trouble to get it changed which is what Bono's daughter did.  I can't blame her.

I don't find it appealing either but Mr. Wolfchild isn't named after the state. His father is a Dakota Sioux.

Like I said, there are exceptions.  Whether that exception was the right one might be debatable.  I am 1/8 Cherokee and was around a grandfather who looked just like he could have been the chief of a tribe.  So I try to be open, of course, to things that are Native American--within reason.  How far I might want to go with having an unusual Native American name, especially as a given name, I don't know.

For the uninitiated:

Many moons ago (so now we have some Native American content too), I likened the Epi JC Signature to Gwyneth Paltrow, visually appealing at first sight, but inherently boring. Dave W/Dances-around-Gwyneth came up to, no, not the Epi's defense, but (back then still) Miss Paltrow's honor, writing something along the lines that he wouldn't, given the chance, push her off the side of his bed, you know? Of course, he said it more nicely than that, given the gentleman he is.

Ever since then, Dave has been in a state of denial about the whole thing (triggered no doubt by (i) her marriage to the Coldplay guy, (ii) subsequent ill choice of child names) while I have in the long haul come to peace with the qualities of the Epi JC Sig! Dave nowadays tends to play his former crush on Frau Paltrow down, I guess you could call it "conscious uncoupling".

I'd like both a JC sig and a chance to rearrange Gwyneth Paltrow's internal organs, because well, why not?

You know you're really terrible in that you always want to have things both ways, right?!

"Rearrange Gwyneth Paltrow's internal organs" - to his eternal credit, those weren't Dave's words at all!  :-[ You can bump a doughnut on that he will not use crude, coarse language to describe intimate acts.

Say what you will, I've never had a thing for Gwyneth Paltrow. I just said she wasn't boring. If I hadn't read that her ex was in Coldplay, I'd never have known who he was. Never heard their music AFAIK.

Now, Valerie Bertinelli is a different matter....  :vader:

But the eternal question prompts itself: what about Mary Ann?

Some more Gwyneth Paltrow news I just ran across.  This is going to be really disappointing for all her fans, but she is taking a break from acting to focus on her lifestyle company "Goop."

The most popular Google page for "goop" under "urban dictionary" shows me she didn't research the name very well, let alone the more "favourable" definitions... I particularily disliked the flabby orifice reference... :o

Translation: she's not being offered any acting jobs, and her company is in deep trouble.

That's only because Dave wanted her to stop.

True! As in "please, make it stop!"  :P
