That's incredible Rob! You certainly fooled me into thinking this was a Gibson factory one off. Is that decade a Stellartone?

And it's not even 1st of April, sigh.  :-X

Rob, you were born in the wrong time. You should have been a student of Rembrandt. I could have seen some vast opportunities for you there. Artistically and monetarily.

Wow! Truly amazing work, I absolutely love the build pics.  A bass that pretty has to sound good, happy to see my insignificant tuner parts were put to good use!

Basvarken

I owed you guys an answer about the serial number and the nail.

Here's how I did it. The pic shows the piece of scrap wood that I used to practice on.

Looks like you "Nailed it"! I work with machine tools for a living. Machine tools are crutches for people that aren't talented enough to do the same chore by hand..........

I know!!! That's on my mind all the time.  But any serious collection needs a lovingly done fake, yours is worthy! Some of those Rembrandt fakes are among the best stuff "he" has done. I guess buying a Rembrandt back in the day was a bit like buying a Gibson today: You can't seriously expect that Henry J built it personally for you.

You have some epic patience to do that "s/n' with a nail like that.

Creating that serial number wasn't the most time consuming part of the bass.
It's the endless sanding and scraping that drives me crazy sometimes. I takes quite a bit of effort and time, but you hardly see any result... :o

Thanks for the great story. Now I hope you don't use these powers for evil. Imagine if you never told anyone the truth and put that thing up on e-bay as a super rare one off and some stupid schmuck offered you something like 7k for it!
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

Excellent idea! I'll tell my sons to put it on Ebay when I die. Cause I'll most likely will not die a very wealthy man
