Here are a couple of shots from what I believe is the new tour book. I don't see any of the Ampegs on the list. I also don't know which, if any, of these are going on tour with him.

Very nice...

One of my ambitions is to own a 1959 instrument, to go with my vintage... but a ways off yet... ;)

I suppose a '64 T-Bird would be nice, but I could settle for an Embassy.

An electric bass of my vintage would have to be one of the very rare Tutmarc Serenader basses made by Paul Tutmarc's son Bud.

That's Bud on lap steel.

Birth year basses, I almost sorta got mine.
I have always fancied a blonde single coil P Bass from my birth year, 1957 or a TBird II. When I retired just under a year ago, my wife said she wanted to buy me a special bass. Exchange rate was (still is) deteriorating in Australia so I thought I would look locally or this could get prohibitively expensive. In any case, I would want to carefully check out and play a bass like that first before buying, if at all possible. So put feelers out in Australia, not really expecting to find anything.
Well, no joy on either front, although I did hear of a TBird II that a guy has had for a very long time but wasn't parting with. Good news is, I did find my "conception year bass", a wonderful absolutely original ash body 1956 P Bass, although not a blonde, a very hot brunette. It's the one in my avatar.

BTW It will be a hoot if Geddy gigs one of those T Birds or the Paisley Tele.

For me born in 1950, a birth year bass would be a Kay upright.  I pre-date Leo's inspiration and post-date AUdiovox's experiments.

I might not limit myself to a bass as I'd also contemplate a mandolin...

Yes I have been seriously thinking about getting a  Mandolin to muck around on.

We were over in Ky (the better half's home State) back in '03 and nearly got a decent locally made one but funds were stretched... I've had a budget one for quite a few years but she's not up to much... good enough, but the tone's not quite there... Scott's got one... not sure if there are any other players here...

I was born in 1950 too. The first P bass was commercially available in 1951 so surely Leo was inspired before that, maybe sometime in 1950. Anyway, I have no desire for a first generation P. I am quite happy with a Thunderbird from my high school years, I don't need anything as old as me.

I had a 1969 Thunderbird II bass but sold it to Scott.....however...recently I picked up a mint all original 1969 Fender Telecaster bass.....iIm the second owner!! Just waiting to get it back from having a level and crown on the fingerboard....
