News to me, although you KISS fanatics probably have heard of this.

"Here is the never aired Folgers commercial featuring Paul Stanley that ultra conservative parent company, Proctor and Gamble shelved out of concern regarding being associated with KISS."

It's hard to believe anyone would pull a commercial so innocuous.  Here is a KISS-related commercial I kind of like.

To me, Kiss, in all its aspects, good and bad, is as American as cherry pie. Very East Coast, very jewish, very "rags to riches/American dream", slightly naive, but imbued with that most typical of traits of the American collective psyche, that positive belief that you will not fail, which more often than not turns out to be right. To slightly adapt a Churchill quote: "You guys have a knack of getting things eventually right. After having explored and put to test all other available options of course."

That said, Folgers did Stanley Eisen a favor keeping this in the vaults. He was never very good or credible at this Michael Bolton thing. Sometimes, "Kiss" ("Keeze") can rhyme with "cheese". But a little cheese is very American too!  ;)

The cutest part is at 13:50, her embarrassed "I told you my tongue is small!" She must have been asked about her tongue a million times.

The best part of waking up, is Stanley in your cup! Actually, the best part of waking up is going back to bed after you pee.

Yeah, that was horrible. And what's with the little disappearing act at the end?

When you think of Folger's, don't you automatically think of Paul Stanley and an acrobat?  :o

Procter & Gamble was never "ultra conservative" either politically or business-wise. Now if this had been made in the 70s when KISS was considered controversial, I could see them not airing it, although it's more likely they never would have made it in the first place.

But the article where I saw this says the commercial was made in 2000. Chances are it wasn't aired because it wasn't very good.

I didn't realize Proctor & Gamble had ever been considered conservative by anyone.  They have been involved in a lot of controversies and lawsuits.  One controversy which seems to have got a lot of negative publicity was the rumor that their logo was an occult symbol.  I think a lot of people took this seriously.

I haven't seen anything on Sophie in quite a while and I have to say that she's turned out to be a very pretty young lady.  If you watch all the way to the end you can see that she's even a normal size - not a drug induced size 0.

I would have posted that Ace one if it wasn't already here. They could have just stopped after that one and been fine. It's silly, but works. Paul's? Not so much...

P&G sold off a lot of its brands in the last few years. Folger's is now owned by Smucker's. Maybe we'll see Paul doing a grape jelly commercial.  :P

I know why P&G didn't release the commercial.  It was just about the dumbest, most pretentious thing I've ever seen!   :bored:  Although I'm sure Paul knows something about flying high.

Overall, the commercial might not be too great, but there are a lot of things out there far worse.  For example, I can think of two guitarists right now on TV selling guitars of very questionable quality as well as trying to convince people that they can take a few music lessons from them and become musicians.  Compared to that, someone trying to sell coffee seems harmless to me.

They key to me is that the story or pitch needs to relate to the product.  I see lots of clever commercials on TV that don't make that connection - and 5 minutes after I see the spot, I don't remember what product it was for.  To me, that's a failed spot.

I don't see circus acrobats relating to coffee myownself.

OTOH, some commercial series grow around a character - like Progressive's Flo. Some of their spots are clever, some are duds.  There's a holiday "Flo family" series airing now that has absolutely no merit and is hard to understand. Total failure IMO.

There are a lot of commercials out there that are horrible, including the Flo holiday one.  I'd say 99% of the commercials I see are a waste of time.  I hate many of them, although probably not as much as George Harrison who seemed to hate commercials with a passion.  I think he may have been fanatical about it even.
