I have been watching this thing for weeks and I still think he is to high for a '81 fretless I don't care if it is a "rare" color. I'm thinking a nice fretted '81 P should be between $900 and 1100. A fretless though not as common isn't that desirable ( if it were a J it would be a different story) Tops I'd go is $1,200 but that's only cause I want it bad LOL. Input please. http://www.ebay.com/itm/301353351011?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I think $1200 would be reasonable, but definitely not "gotta grab it!" And while in the grand scheme of things that color is rare, it's really not so rare as far as this era is concerned. Looks great, that's for sure!

Even though there's no BIN offer, you might make an offer to the seller.  As long as you do it via Ebay, that's legal. He might say yes.

Oh. I have been in touch says he won't go lower than 1500
I offered 1200 months ago.

Yeah, looks nice but given the non-original bridge & thumb rest I think your price is much more reasonable.

FWIW, the pickups probably aren't original either. Cherryburst Fenders (at least the ones I've seen) came with white pickup covers that yellowed very quickly and looked very much like Dimarzios of the same vintage.

Interesting. I know of one in a local studio with a black pickup.

They also had plastic Strat knobs, too.

I agree that the pickup is not original. And it's definitely not a rare color for its time.

Hmmmmmmmmmm good to know! The auction tanked at $1,500 and now it's back up again.........................at 1,500 BIN  :o

I was going to send him a message with the new info and try and get him to be reasonable but I think I'm going to let it go belly up again. He runs a 20 plus day auction I predict no nibbles. Maybe I'll just go buy a new Ric.
