I'm not a fan of EBs, but the 1964 looks good.  What's the consensus on what the buyer would do with it?  Leave it as is or restore it?  Personally (so long as it worked), I leave it alone.

Yeah, leave it... it's gorgeous!

Clean it, but don't botox it.

The '64 is overpriced IMO.  Looks like all it needs is a cleaning  My '65 cost $1k with original case in '07 off Ebay.

Except it is not a 64 as mentioned.  Black plastic pup + bar bridge w/o mute puts this into 61ish territory.  The black pup is rare.  Not worth it to me personally (though I do like the look), but legitimate rarity and priced accordingly.  SG shape with black pup was only produced in 61 and 62 (before 61 it was LP Jr body shape, and after 62 it was a nickel pup).

Rare but now easily duplicated with a 3D printer.   I have a back burner project to dupe my '60s cover that I really wanted to ditch for a chrome one back in the day.  Luckily never did.

Nickel until '66 or '67.  Then the chromed pot metal bridge to match the chrome pup cover.

Granny Gremlin

Like I said not worth it to me, but legitimately rare/expensive.  Duplicating it would not be the same - a repro is just a repro.  ... and a repro 61 cover on a 64 bass is actually worth less than that same 64 with the proper/original cover.  Colectors are a pedantic sort like that.

Nickel was to 65-66 (not a hard cut over) actually, but yeah., close enough.

I thought I remember someone saying that black EB cover pups sound different as well?

I remember looking for them long ago and have never seen one pop up without a pricey bass attached

I'm not a 100% sure but I dont think the '62 EB-0 got over a grand the first time it was listed.  Kind of a cool "time-capsule" piece but I cant stand auctions that dont have good clear pictures of the back of the headstock so you can tell if it's been cracked or not.

I was more shocked when I saw what an original plastic cover was listed for...3D printer might be a good idea! :o

The link was followed and it showed a 1963 EB3 presently sitting at $810...

has anyone measured a black plastic covered eb0 pickup?
Louder bass!.

Looks identical (under the hood) to my Nickel 65/66:

It is the earlier still brown plastic cover version (EB1/violin bass) that is different (one massive single coil).

Both look nice  ;) The EB3 particularly tempting...............so is the EB0 :o . I have always wanted a black pup EB0 drooled over one a the House of Guitars back in my youth. I picked up a '67 EB0 for 500 a while ago. Pretty good shape thought the paint has chipped on the mop logo. Not sure the black pup is worth 1k difference to me.

After watching those Slade tracks posted that '63 EB3 is looking mighty tempting.  ;)
