Congrats on the new bass! Looks like a beaut. I like the one pup configuration.

Good choice! Probably the most under valued vintage basses on the market.

I like that one a lot. Great score!

That is a DANDY bass...and love the color, too!!

I love the looks and have one too, but its midrange honk needs serious frequency cutting over any rig. More honk than a Ric at its honkiest.

No idea where the honk comes from, the pup? Wood combination is innocent enough (but there are also maho ones, do these honk less?). Otherwise the bass is a looker/classic and sturdy as hell. Also an example of how you can do a two point bridge that doesn't tip or tilt. If you're not Gibson that is.

Killer!  Mid-range honk, eh?  I would probably love that!

Looks like it has a big ole neck.

Does it sound anything like the other Guild model that Jeff Magnum used with the Dead Boys?

Uwe, mine is one of the 'hog ones. much more common too. the ones made of ash came later and have the A as in B301-A. anyways i dont have it yet so i'll let you know about the "honk" when i get it. funny i wasn't even looking for a bass, i was looking for a project/beat up SG. but i couldn't pass on the price, it was too good. i still need a guitar though.

The signature sound is predominantly from the pickup. Some may say it honks others might say clank. Either way it's unique and assertive. I think skate rat will love it for his music. The tone knob does a great job blending in bass and mellowing out the bite. The neck is one of the chunkier I've played but somehow very comfy at the same time. Maybe because of the profile, radius or wide low frets. Interested to hear your impression skate rat.

Mine honks, it's not treble or presence it's some nasty frequency in between mid-midrange and high-midrange. No other bass of my 160 or 170 or whatever my current count is has that "frequency nose". But it can be dialed out.

I always thought the maho ones were the rare ones and I had the plain Jane one! Nice revelation!!!

Honk or not, I wouldn't give mine up, I really like the look and how it plays.

The B301 A neck is the mirror opposite combo of the B301. Two piece maple neck with a hog stringer down the middle.
