I'm sure you can get the same feel with two fingers.

Jamerson's RH technique was an upright "hook" adapted for bass guitar. In addition he thought that using two fingers was "sissy" and that "real men" should use just the index finger. He was - with all due respect - wrong.

there is no right or wrong, its whatever works best for you.  i think it worked pretty well for jamerson.

when someone has been music schooled in all the 'correct techniques', i can see how unorthodox things may be hard to accept. that can be limiting as well.

I used to play with just my index finger a lot of the time. It gives a different feel that works on some songs. Don't do it much any more, ought to get back in practice. Back when I started doing it, I had no idea about Jamerson or Jerry Scheff.

George Thorogood..."I Drink Alone"...a classic!

Finger technique is what works for you and that's it and if anyone tells you anything else you know what to give them...

Use 'em all, if that suits you...

The best advice I ever was given was not practice makes perfect, but that perfect practice makes perfect, and she was a pianist and just sixteen...

Thain sure still has a lot of fans here.

The first full song I ever learned on bass:

I wore parts of this album out back in the '70's
Have Fun.  Be Nice.  Mean People Suck.

Now that's an exotic choice, commendable! Hensley does his Elton John impressions and you learn the bass part!

Ken's music - just like Elton's - has matured a little over time (and maybe, just maybe taken in just a little Stevie Wonder "I just called ..." in the chorus!  ):

This guy's got the one finger technique down. He's done his Jamerson homework. Check out all his other vids. Jerry Scheff was great with single finger technique too.

Wow, that guy is REALLY good, talk about funky.

One of my all time favorite simple bass riffs:

So much of the old Animals stuff has really held up over time. A lot of music that I listened to back in that era just simply did not, and when I hear it today, I get a serious case of "what was I thinking." :o. The Animals is nothing like that 8).

Another Animals classic...We Gotta Get Out of This Place.

The bass line carries this tune, and does require a little work with the string-crossing, but it's not really difficult. I'd say it's on the high end of "simple".

We Gotta Get Outta This Place ;D.  When I was just learning to play,  this song was my greatest accomplishment. Damn, I thought I was cool 8).
